Quingy, GUI replacement for getty; Directfb 2.0, graphics

#1 Post by scsijon »

1/ Is qingy?

A Qingy image qingy is a replacement for getty. Written in C, it uses DirectFB to provide a fast, nice GUI without the overhead of the X Windows System. It allows the user to log in and start the session of his choice (text console, gnome, kde, wmaker, ...).

and
2/ Is directfb 2.0

DirectFB is a thin library that provides hardware graphics acceleration, input device handling and abstraction, integrated windowing system with support for translucent windows and multiple display layers, not only on top of the Linux Framebuffer Device. It is a complete hardware abstraction layer with software fallbacks for every graphics operation that is not supported by the underlying hardware. DirectFB adds graphical power to embedded systems and sets a new standard for graphics under Linux.

I wonder just how easy this would be to port into Puppy? As you can see from my sigfile Jon I'm using several various types of Puppy ( but ONLY Puppy - no other distro allowed here! ;) ) on this machine, 3 in HD install and 4 or 5, perhaps more, in frugal install.

Just curious here - not actually saying that I have time, nor the brains, to commit to this project unfortunately. :(

Thanks for any brief info or ideas Jon!

Cheers/Amicalement,
