Subject description: because I killed it

Using Dpup based on Lenny Puppy 4.7.6) and it seems that beep
media player doesn't fully cleanup after its window is closed.

Sometimes I forget that I have BMP running (but paused) and
I try to open a second .mp3

In this case, BMP sayis that it can't play that second file, and lists
2 or 3 reasons. So I dispose of the window with the halted ,mp3
and try again to open the new file

But it won't play because BMP thinks I still have another instance
of it running, even though it has been killed and nothing but
a reboot will convince it otherwise.

To avoid rebooting I can resort to using mplayer, but it's a
nuisance when BMP is set to the default mp3 player. It
seems that BMP is not fully cleaning up after I close its window
and something is left behind to make another BMP process
think it's already in use.

Hi shep I don't have that issue with bmp in 2.14X, sounds like it needs a bmp wrapper to properly kill it. Or it needs recompiling, either or, I think this would be better stated in the dpup thread so gpossil will know about it.
