'no setup signature fund'

#1 Post by ravensrest »

I frugal installed Puppy 431 on my desktop and like it better than any Puppy thus far. So I then tried frugal installing it to my Dell Inspiron 2650 from the same CD. It appears to install correctly, but when I try to reboot I get this message:
no setup signature found
immediately after initrd.gz is read, and the computer halts.

Of course I tried reinstalling it, but the problem persists. What does the error message mean, and how do I correct?

IIRC, this error occurs when you try to boot a newer Linux with an old version of GRUB - pre 0.97. Is this the case with your Dell?

Apparently so. Following your post, I installed the version of Grub that came with Puppy 431 and all it well.
Thanks,
BS
