Dpup484 will appear just after Christmas, it is an enormous change from 482, with a completely new modern backend and new gcc4.4.2 devx. All core apps have been re-compiled with the new devx to take advantage of the upgrades to gtk2, glib, GLIBC, pango, cairo and a whole lot more along the way...(This release will go past the as yet unreleased Debian Squeeze in terms of modern library support)

There are some major changes to the app inclusion, which I will outline in a changelog soon...and yes it will be smaller than previous Dpups...

Cheers
Guy

Another major change I hadn't mentioned, is that Dpup484 is a Squeeze Puppy...no longer Lenny Puppy, and the Debian repos have been updated to include this upgrade...

In fact we will be the first Debian based distro to get to release ahead of Squeeze....in fact in backend performance, we will be ahead of *buntu next release also...should shake the big boys up somewhat... Cool. There will also be an option for Full HDD installers to upgrade to bleeding edge 2.6.32.2 kernel.

I don't know if anyone has noticed, but i'm curious, the 2.6.27.x is still in active development, and it may be a an option for the retro kernel as well as as 2.6.21+ ...............The 27 kernel has a lot going for it in backward compatibility for older hardware, as well as it's leading edge features....

Cheers

Got me so excited I borked my 483 install. Protip- if you increase pupsaversize, let it finish when you reboot. Or maybe it was just too much coffee.

I guess we can wait a few more days for Dpup 484, but it'll be difficult. Smile

About the 2.6.27 kernel, I'm still running that kernel in Dpup 477 on my test box and its working fine on a 733 mhz/ 256 mb ram machine.

Also good to know of the ability to upgrade kernels too, I've been running 2.6.32.2 for a few days in the new Mepis beta release. On my old equipment for some reason things don't seem to run as well as Dpup or my Mepis 8 install w/ the 2.6.27.1 kernel. It could be that KDE 4 though........ Smile
