Hi GrumpyWolfe,

i installed Chrome on Puppy 4.20 (full install), also installed the libldap-2.4.pet, but i still get the following missing dependencies:

Code: Select all

These dependencies required by GoogleChrome-004 package are missing:
File /usr/lib/libgconf2-4/2/libgconfbackend-evoldap.so has these missing library files:
 libsasl2.so.2
Do you know were to get this libarary? Now Chrome starts and exits within a fraction of a second.

thanks for your help!

Uden and magerlab

It may be that only puppy 4.3 and newer will work because this Google chrome is for Debian's latest release and they are not back-porting it as for as I know I just got home from work will look at it more after some sleep. may be able to get the libs in to separate pets and let you guys see if they work for you.

I downloaded your Google Chrome beta in 4.12.

I did a puppy google search for libsasl2.so.2 and a forum message reported that are in www.puppylnux.ca/tpp/ttuuxx/lib. But it reports not found.

No problems on latest MacPup

#19 Post by rickyricardo »

Downloaded then installed clean on latest MacPup (based on 4.3.1). No missing libs or other issues. I'm running MacPup on a 10 year old Dell Latitude C600 as a full HDD install with a swap partition. I've been using Chrome on XP for many months as primary browser and am delighted to be able to use it on my Puppy machines.

Dependency searth puppylinux 3.01

#21 Post by ndujoe1 »

Thanks for your kind efforts on my two previous dependencies. This search is growing like weeds I guess. Probably best to let it go for working on Puppy LInux 3.01

The latest error message reads :

/usr/bin/google-chrome: symbol lookup error: /usr/bin/google-chrome: undefined symbol: g_once_init_enter_imp

which from my investigations relates to a later version glibc which need recompiling to be install correctly. Which wouldn't advance the cause for puppy linux 3.01 users I would think as it would add another complicated layer of use. Puppy linux way of doing things is to be easy and simple.

Googe Chrome

#23 Post by rameshiyer »

Dear GrumpyWolfe

Thank you for the good work and extending support to all of us. I have a problem, my Google -chrome is not updating automatically. Kindly let me know the procedure for auto update . Usually in Windows XP, Google Chrome will update automatically without doing anything. Here, the same is not happening. Is it required to change any file Puppy Linux / Google Chrome , if so, how? . I looking for easy to understand solution for that, if available.

Another issue, how to enable Java Run time for Google Chrome.?

I need a simple solution.

Because of the base they used for Google-chrome I do not think it will be very easy to get it to run on anything under puppy 4.31. They are basing it off a the latest Debian so all newer libs and some will not fit will in the older browser without a lot of upgrading,

rameshiyer

I signed up for the developers site but don't remember where and there it said it would keep me updated but have been rewriting and testing so much on Google-chrome and MyWolfe that I am not sure if I am getting the auto updating myself anymore. MyWolfe-008 was going to be based on having Google-chrome as the only browser but there is a chache you have to create your save file before root is writable so it will not lunch Google-chrome until you do a save. Trying to find a way around that too.

Well I will need a little more information and for one thing I hope you meant Google-chrome-004, just what version of puppy are you running. Is it a fugal install or a full intall are you running from cd ect. For the only way I have gotten that error message is when I do not have a save file created for chrome to set up its root working Dir. If you do not have a working save file that may be one problem.

This missing dependency thing seems to lead down a never-ending road. Every time I install a lib.pet, I get more and more and more missing libs. Seems like going through willy-nilly, installing missing dependencies might not be the best approach, but I really don't know enough about compiling (and I damn sure don't know enough about Puppy yet) to make sure all the dependencies get brought in.

Does anyone have a better solution?

That is very strange for many are runniing it just fine now I am working on a T2-8rc build with beta release as the only browser but that error message you got only comes up before I have created a save file. After creating a save file there is no problem for the new build. Nest question is this is your 4.31 frugal on a windows partion.

GrumpyWolfe,

The install is on its own ext2 partition. The browser runs just fine, it's just that it first showed up with a missing dependency (libgio). I found a .pet for it and installed it, the dependency manager showed it having two more missing dependencies. I found .pet packages for them; now it's showing four MORE missing dependencies.

I'll reiterate: Chrome is working just fine, as far as I can tell. I don't know what these missing dependencies are, or what the deal is, but I'm anal-retentive enough not having them satisfied bugs me a bit.

If I knew enough about compiling from source, I'd recompile Chrome myself and see what happens. Or, if there were a .pet package that allowed me to install .deb packages, I'd just install one of Google's pre-built Chrome packages. While I've heard rumor of such a package, I haven't been able to find it yet.
