XP-like Hungarian puplet Subject description: Made from puppy linux 4.3.1 |
|
A new hungarian puplet presented by the hungarian puppy linux community.
A basic idea was to have an easy-to-handle-for beginners and looks-like-a-well-known-os for students (kids) and teacher in a basic school.
6 old machines saved from trash somehow those were too slow for windows.
1000 Mhz, 256 Mb ram, 8 GB hd...pfff...
Every computer requires for reading on the internet or listening to music, watching videos or just to play so i have suggested to save them with puppy linux. good...
It is a simple puplet integrated with wine 1.1.33 for some win progs.

You guys really are keeping busy with Puppy - i've just seen your other post on the Hungarian variation of NOP
Congratulations on the great job you and the Hungarian Linux community are doing!
This one also should be posted on Puppy's home page for puplets,

Subject description: Request for update |
|
Hey there s-kami and kros54,
I've been very happy running XP-Hungarian 528 on my main box at home for months now - nearly since you first released this - Great Job and Well Done
I'll jump to the request:
PLEASE will you consider updating this project using the latest 5.2.8 updates, most stable Wine release (1.4) AND equip it with working DirectX ???
I'm having a devil of a time getting XQ Player running in any Puppy environment (worked in PolarPup005 with Wine 1.3.13 but I broke the system when I tried to remaster - trimming the fat - and now can't get it back...)
My copy of XP_hu_528 is dual booted with XP and a variety of other Puplets that I've been using to coax my wife away from the 'dark side'. I particularly appreciate the care and consideration you've put in your WINE and Portable Apps configuration. It was fairly easy too to convert (most!) functions into English.
It's been so stable I thought I would use it to 'springboard' research colleagues away from their MicroSoft environments. It's been a long lead-up- I now have them using "CowLog" and the 'R' statistical environment - but they've found ways to use them all in Win7 and won't easily make the final step to Puppydom (or any similar Linux freedom). I had an opportunity to finally 'seal the deal' when they were having problems transferring multi-stream animal behaviour videorecordings using the "XQ Player" software.
I solved the problem on a much-modified version of PolarPup - couldn't remaster - sought to use XP-like Hu as an attractive, comparatively slim solution but although I have followed similar (and recent) solutions to this problem on the Puppyforums (thanks darkgame and others), and various how-to's on the Wine forum BUT I cannot get it working despite testing a wide range of Wine versions, DirectX 9 and 10 redistribs, mscoree and streamci dll's - on a range of hardware with different hi-end video drivers (nvidia and Xorg_high).
I think it would be very helpful indeed to have a 528 puplet with the Wine/DirectX problem that many are having, "done and dusted". Can you help please?
Cheers anyway!

directx Subject description: wine with working directx |
|
Hi Puppyt !
Thank you !
I am so sorry, but i am so busy.
I have to work a lot.
Im a terribly poor guy now...
I wish all the days i could make this project and packages...
I have played with counter-strike and some other program under wine and the directx worked for me but there was a switch to use wine opengl or directx default.
Directx... it depends on the linux driver and all the drivers include into one puplet makes brutal sized puppy...
It would be a good idea to create a fresh xp-like puppy from slacko with new programs and wine but i have no time now...
I would like to create a new one... planning... as soon as i can...
Overheads... food... money making at first...
Bye Bye !

Thanks s-kami -
I quite understand: real life must come first!
Thanks too for your tip with the Wine 'switch' - I've been trying different combinations and (some) error messages from terminal indicate GLX bugbears. Dunno how I first got it working with PolarPup but in that project I threw everything into it including kitchen sinks - the remaster was about 800MB - so it was likely I had something accidentally correct. (Monkeys, typewriters and Shakespeare come to mind...)
I won't even tell you the troubles I had with Java classpath settings - but I had to install it twice (inside, and outside of Wine) to get various windows- and Linux- based applications going...
Best Wishes!
