Best setup for Privacy and Security with Puppy browsing?

#1 Post by benali72 »

I want to browse in Puppy 4.3.1 with the greatest privacy and security possible.

First I enabled Puppy's firewall.

Next, I installed Firefox 3.5 from here -- http://in.solit.us/archives/download/164908.

I configured Firefox to erase all cookies and other info upon exit. And I browse in Private Browsing Mode whenever possible.

Then I added the Better Privacy and Ad Block add-ons to Firefox.

Any other ideas for what I should be doing? Recommendations welcome! Thanks.

Hi,

you could use an user with restricted right,
one is already setup: the "spot" user, read /root/spot/README.txt
to do so, you can launch your browser with:

Code: Select all

su spot -c defaultbrowser
or su spot -c firefox, depending on your preferred way to launch your browser (you could also modify /usr/local/bin/defaultbrowser, to input
"su spot -c " prefix on your preferred command).

you may have to copy few files from your root directory to the spot directory, for seamonkey, I have to do:

Code: Select all

cp -r /root/.mozilla /root/spot
to keep settings of the default user.

... and of course, check that you get your pets from a trusted qualified source, with verified md5sum.

you could also have a look at DNS services (Google, Open DNS, ...).

regards,

Thank you both, I'm learning some good stuff here. GROOWWWLLLL!

For Firefox I am now using the browser plug-ins --

1. Ghostery -- blocks web bugs
2. Noscript -- gives you control over active content running
3. Ad-block -- blocks ads
4. BetterPrivacy -- gives you control over flash cookies (LSO, DOM, etc)
