Writing on a read-only hard drive

#1 Post by wrabbit »

Ok so I am fooling around with an old computer that has Win XP on it and I changed the BIOS file to make it load PloPloader at startup because it doesn't boot from USB naturally. Now I need to restore the old BIOS which I backed up on the hard drive. I thought it would be as simple as booting puppy, making the switch, and then restarting but it says my hard drive is read only. How do I fix this?

BTW: the cd-rom isnt operational so that's out.

so its a bootloader and not a bios change?
Read only means its ntfs in need of a chkdsk from windows or recovery console.
There is ntfsfix from the terminal but its a bit of an unkown quantity.

If its a boot loader it should write regardless.

Do whoever make it have a forum/help?
