Here are instructions for a full install. Early partitions were
called "hda"; they have been called "sda" for about 4 years
or so.

I've used full installs for more than 4 years and wouldn't
dream of switching.

Inspiron 700m, Pent.M 1.6Ghz, 1Gb ram.
Msi Wind U100, N270 1.6>2.0Ghz, 1.5Gb ram.
Eeepc 8g 701, 900Mhz, 1Gb ram.
Full installs

Welcome to Puppy.

First please post your hardware so we can advise on
the best puppy.

Personally I believe that is Lucid 5.28 ...Version3.

http://distro.ibiblio.org/puppylinux/pu ... 28.003.iso

Alternate, much faster download link for Lucid 5.2.8 ->

http://diddywahdiddy.net/Puppy500/lupu-528.003.iso

"""""""""""

Otherwise just try it on cd....use imgburn...so it can save back
settings to an ordinary cd.

USB is good if your comp can boot from usb.

I normally never use full install...except on low end

and I mean on low end....64 meg ram Pentium 2 machines.

Keep Windows....enjoy Puppy is my mantra.

Why wouldn't you update? Because of the toolbar-type options included in the latest versions of the installer? Other than that, it's always good to update it - LightningUK's always improving it quite a bit with each update. Just search for a 'portable' version of the latest version (in this case, 2.5.6.0), instead, if you're concerned about the installer.

It's a pity LightningUK doesn't have a Linux version of Imgburn, of course. :D

I have been doing full installs of puppy for a little over 2 years and have been very pleased with results.

I keep a copy of all the pets I download for various puppies and once I get a new iso, I do full install install of the iso and then load my list of pets. You have to be a little careful here since some pets don't play well with all of the iso's available.

I use ext4 partitions and have about a dozen different versions of puppy running

Lukenoot, before you go to the trouble of an irreversible full install, why not at least look into some of the other easy ways to run Puppy? Have you at least tried running Lucid Puppy from a CD? If you have a DVD burner and at least 256 MB of RAM I recommend that you try running Lucid Puppy from a multisession DVD for a while to get the hang of Puppy before you do a full install.

" Why wouldn't you update?"

Needs no install....straight from a Hiren's disc ...years ago.

They also sold the product and...

" I post on ImgBurn forums that the ask.com bundled malware is really killing ImgBurn’s reputation, especially while presented along side some UniBlue system-destroyer garbage (clean registry! fix errors!

OMG!). What do I get? A whole bunch of backlash about not knowing
how to uncheck the installer, LUK supporting his work, blah blah. I thought it was pretty common knowledge that reg-cleaners and
toolbars are malware. There are about a million other ways he could be supporting… just… I mean, WTF? I don’t get how that isn’t obvious…"

etc

As it is it works fine on xp...Vista...Win7

Yes, but I'd still rather users try the more recent versions so, hopefully, it's more stable and better supports all their hardware (never did get around to testing to see if it supported those old drives on my Win98 tower, again :D). Plus, I think the newer versions' 'wizard' might be better for those who aren't used to the program, yet.

I do agree with you about the adware, though. LUK could've chosen other, better ways for support than bundling. Not completely sure what, though. That's why I recommended the portable versions.
