Why Puppy

I am heartened by the many responses
such as:
I discovered Puppy Linux 6 days ago. I've been a Mac user for 20 years. The recession hit me hard and there's no way I could buy a new computer. Someone gave me a 4 year old Presario laptop with a cheesy ATI 200M graphics processor. For months now I've been pulling my hair out trying to get different distros to work on it. When I tried Puppy it was like my birthday all over again! I can't tell you how happy I am to finally get something that works well and has a mighty fine UI! Now I have a computer that I can build my future on. Thank you.
I was using and reading about Puppy (it was part of my penguin education) well before I started asking questions and getting involved in a minor capacity.
I remember being the first to test the multi-session from one machine to another - it worked.
Or testing MU's programs - so many . . .
Many memories.
We have puplets.
and developing wooflets.
Barry is one of the reasons Puppy is so good.
Goodwill at this time is to be welcomed
Update: Forgot to mention:
My sister is starting to use Puppy.
Cups worked first time - on setting up
- no problems - recipe for Salmon printed
She was a bit mystified by the file directory structure . . . m m m . . . may need a waffling tutorial from me

Here is another great story from Barrys blog
Just wanted you to know that Puppy has touched many people in ways you don't know.
Example; here in northern Thailand. Arrived at a guesthouse last year. The house computer hard drive died that afternoon. Many guests needing email and travel info and airline bookings. Pulled out my Puppy livecd. Booted up. Problem solved. For months now.
The look on people's faces when I tell them they are using Linux. Priceless responses, "I didn't know Linux would do that!! .... Who is this guy in Australia? ... I want to look this up on the internet. You mean this is free! And, no hard drive! Really?? Noooo?" Me, big smile, "Yes. Really!"
This introduced people to Linux and Puppy in a critical situation and they were very happy with the results. And, wanted to know more.
And, Barry, I have to thank you for something else. The lady owner of the guesthouse was pretty impressed by me doing this. And, after about three months evidently even a little more impressed with me because we are now a couple. So, thanks again. Never thought this would happen to me at this stage of my life (retired engineer).
But, a Puppy cd started it.
Such, is serendipity.

The hard drive of the computer of my friend who works with the revenue service recently died in the middle of a very important report. She had a back up copy of her files in a USB stick. She asked for my help and Puppy came to my mind. As her office has a very slow internet, I chose Hacao which had everything she needed and installed it on her other USB stick. In 10 minutes flat she was back at work and was even able to open her files in her USB. We were even able to remove viruses residing in that stick.
She thanked me profusely and so I will also thank the guys behind Puppy! You guys are the MEN!

I hate to think that any of my comments may have contributed to any ill feeling toward Barry. In all honesty it was my way of defending him.
When I hear frustration and hurt in the posts of the people who make Puppy what it is I get anxiety. What will I do if it all goes away? I rely on Puppy. Other distros are NOT an option.
I hope Barry can avoid seeing the (foolish) negativity on some of the posts.
It's a shame that negativity is "fashionable".
I wish I had the capacity to contribute in testing and feedback but I don't know enough to keep up with the "genies".
Puppy changes things for the better. It enables people to save money, avoid frustration and be free. I wonder how many other distros can do that?
A great story to the greatness of Puppy, ragaman.

Puppy is awesome. This is the distro that got me interested in Linux. I think Puppy 2.17.1 was the one that had me sold. Thank you for making such a great OS Barry. And many thanks to all those who contribute to it and are helping it evolve.

Did you see the post by alienjeff, indicating that Mr. Kauler works on Puppy for the money?
Barry wrote a reply explaining that he works on Puppy for the enjoyment and independence of it.
But if I were him, alienjeff's post is exactly the kind of thing I would find so disheartening. You work out of the love of it, give it to the world, and in return you get... a reply from alienjeff suggesting you're just in it for the money.
@alienjeff, do you not understand Mr. Kauler's motives? Why did you post what you did?

Alienjeff is a troll that is allowed to linger here and in the chatroom....as long as that continues negative energy will continue to flow into puppy...it's their choice to allow it

I have no idea what Quirky will be like and how much of Puppy will be in it.
I look forward to Quirky.
I feel Dpup and the emerging 4.4 show a great deal of potential.
Ttuuxxx has been working hard on a 2 series
upgrade. That is not for me but those using
older hardware will be (and are) delighted with his efforts.
And new puplets and now increasingly wooflets
are being created and updated.
I am gratified and grateful that we have individuals improving our computing experience.

alienjeff has never contributed anything productive to Barry's Blog, If I was Barry I would simply block AJ username/ip and be done with him.
At onetime AJ used to helpout in mugra forum, but for over 1yr now he's just been a complete nuisance. One day he will be banned for good.

I think alienjeff is a bit on himself (if you get my drift). He is obviously edumercated, and likes to show it. (oh dear, I ended a sentence with a preposition!) Oh yeah, he's a writer!!! benali? Aren't you somewhat of a writer?
BUTT!!! he should not be banned. Barry, I'm sure has seen his wizardry with English. I take him for 'entertainment' value. As I do many around here and other fora, as do many of them take me I suspect!
It's all fun, and only words you are reading on a tiny screen, (well not so tiny if you are well endowed, and I mean that in the nicest/richest possible sense.)

exactly, I don't know what's the deal with him, but many users get wrong impressions reading his comments. Maybe he did use puppy much and helped users and probably knows more then me, I respect that but that doesn't give him right to be an ass.

I have a feeling that when Quirky comes out there will be a huge surge of people trying his newest idea. Barrys work is always above par. I too, am looking forward to it with excitement.

well I avoid such distasteful remarks generally but even though I don't see eye to eye with Barry on the technical side I'm sure that if he wanted to make his fortune he would not be doing puppy and I fully believe that his motivation is a genuine belief in what he does is for the greater good.
