Browserlinux 360 (Firefox 3.6.0) Sub_title: SMP - Kernel 2.6.30.5 - ISO 76 MB |
|
BrowserLinux: small Puplet for surfing the web.
Based on PuppyLinux 4.3.1, kernel 2.6.30.5 (SMP)
Changes in Browserlinux 360
- Firefox update to 3.6
- Auto Connect to Internet after first boot
- New: pet to install Google Chrome, see: www.browserlinux.com
- Bug in Chooselocales fixed
- Empty desktop: no network icon
If you want an operating system for editing movies, writing letters or printing spreadsheets: don't use Browserlinux.
Browserlinux is for browsing the web. I've removed a lot so many .pets won't work. If you want more, use Puppy Linux!

Downloaded earlier today and works great.Since a lot of people only use the computer to surf the net, you built a great puplet...

Martin,
I like your puplet but the previous BrowsLinux 353 has much nicer fonts than the current version with newer kernel & SMP. That is my perception, maybe wrong?

Hi Lisek, There is no difference with 353. The same fonts and the same Mozilla-preferences. Is it real ugly?

Hi dWLkR, I removed al lot, but not GPRS/UMTS/HSDPA. I tested a bluetooth HTC and that worked. Give it a try.

Yes, the fonts are jagged on my PC with BrowserLineux354, dont know why. This may be coused by my Ati card?
Though with BrowserLinux353 the fonts are great.

Did you use de Microsoft Webcore Fonts installer?
Start at: /root/my-applications/Install_Microsoft_Webcore_Fonts.sh

What a shame, I didn't notice that before.
After the installation - it's ok now, nice fonts - many thanks Martin:)
Earlier I installed "Microsoft True Type Core Fonts" and changed these files:
font.conf
local.conf
according to SitHeelSpeak's suggestions here:
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=10576
BUT that didn't help this time like in others puplets.
Microsoft Webcore Fonts - that's it.
Another question. I've installed your BrowserLinux354 [SMP] on USB-stick.
In the extlinux.conf there is:
| Code: | | default vmlinuz initrd=initrd.gz pmedia=usbflash pfix=copy nosmp |
My CPU is 2core - do I need delete "nosmp"?

Yes, delete nosmp and it will be faster. You can see the difference (the running CPU's) when you start htop.
BTW, try the new version: 355
Succes!

You can always find original files on:
- the ISO-file. Click on the ISO (or mount the CD)
- or at location: /initrd/pup_ro2.
Then and go to 'root'.
| Code: | <JWM>
<Tray autohide="true" insert="right" x="0" y="-1" border="1" height="28" >
<!-- Additional TrayButton attribute: label -->
<TrayButton label="Menu">root:3</TrayButton>
<!-- Additional TaskList attribute: maxwidth -->
<TaskList/>
<Dock/>
<!-- Additional Swallow attribute: height -->
<Swallow name="blinky">blinkydelayed -bg "#292D29"</Swallow>
<Swallow name="asapm">asapmshell -u 4</Swallow>
<Swallow name="freememapplet" width="34">freememappletshell</Swallow>
<Swallow name="xload" width="32">xload -nolabel -fg "#9C9C9C" -hl white -bg "#292D29"
</Swallow>
<Clock>minixcal</Clock>
</Tray>
</JWM> |

Ive found this way on the forum, but I have full install [dont see any /initrd/] and have no CD with BrowserLinux at my work, so your listing helped me at the moment.
Thanks Martin.
