Xournal Notepad + Sketchbook

#1 Post by aragon »

Home: http://xournal.sourceforge.net/
Version: 0.4.5
Xournal is an application for notetaking, sketching, keeping a journal using a stylus. It is free software (GNU GPL) and runs on Linux (recent distributions) and other GTK+/Gnome platforms. It is similar to Microsoft Windows Journal or to other alternatives such as Jarnal, Gournal, and NoteLab.
What makes xournal very interesting (at least for me), is the ability to open a pdf, annotate it and save it back to a (new) pdf.

Note: You don't need a stylus to use this app.

Compiled and tested in 4.21.

Tried on Puppy 3.01 but...

Code: Select all

xournal: /lib/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.8' not found (required by /usr/lib/libselinux.so.1)
So I must try to compile for 3.xx series

Don't remember seeing that dependancy. Tested on puppy 4.12 which has glibc 2.6.1.

Older version used ppftoppm which in puppy 4 uses libpoppler (I had a all-in-one binary using ?....) but this version uses libpoppler directlly and seems much faster for it.
Unfortunately one problem...print output is weird (text at 45 degrees)...print preview is ok..anyone else tested printing?

I have the program installed on Puppy 4.31 official. I am able to print from this application with no problem.

Is there any difference in the download and the tarball from Xournal?
I had just downloaded it when I found this link.

The main interest of Xournal is annotation of pdf

#10 Post by Pelo »

Xournal has more interest than i saw reading topics. In fact you can annotate pdf as a teacher should do with his pupils.
The puppy'user can annotate when the developer in not clear. What do you think about that ?
2009 : our computering staff had saw the interest of xournal, how did he have fallen into oblivion? Perhaps users have changed. :?:
Angel Linux issued 15mar2014 includes this nice and light tool (menu 'personal)

Hi.

After creating a symbolic link, /usr/lib/libpoppler-glib.so.2 to /usr/lib/libpoppler-glib.so.8.2.0, this seems to work in Precise Puppies.

I have saved and re-opened a document.

Btw: it's really hard to write with a mouse.

RSH

Edit:

Note, I have executed this from the directory of the extraced .pet package. That's why the GUI is missing some icons in 'image-1.jpg.

xournal is still usefull 2014

#15 Post by Pelo »

People found xournal very usefull. people have changed. Puppy was to be usefull for the homekeeper when he was born. Is that all finsihed ?
Only roots still there ? users have gone ?
Xournal is classified as personal (menu) not graphics. the aim is annotating PDFs, and sure with the computer it's easier. Is it a default using it with a netbook ?
Some famous Puppist fans still use it, now, 2014, like abiword. like MTpaint, like Gnumeric, the Puppy's menu from the ages of success.
Now 64 bits !
New Features:
* Supports UEFI and Secure Boot
....

* Xournal for PDF annotation
