OpenOffice 3.1.1 and XAMPP 1.7.2 Subject description: OO kills MySQL |
|
There appears to be a conflict between OpenOffice 3.1.1 and XAMPP 1.7.2
When OO is installed, the MySQL installed by XAMPP no longer starts.
Anyone experience this and/or have a fix?
Thanks,
Thom

There are other LAMP sfs or pet that can be used, see here:
http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=40483&start=15
That could help you avoid the problem. If you want to inspect the problem, then look at /opt, as both OO and XAMPP use it. You can try going into the XAMPP directory and launching XAMPP from there.

Been down those roads....the verisons mentioned are either Hiawatha based, which I do no want since all my servers and clients run Apache, or there are permission problems with the older XAMPP.

Right now it's called by /opt/lampp/lampp start

Same problem here.
To use XAMPP I must unload OpenOffice first from BootManager.

I found that oxygenoffice3.0 that ecomoney offered works fine with XAMPP 1.7.2
Have you tried OO 3.0, rather than the latest one?

@tclhost
I'd met same problem (1-2 years ago)
I'd post some thing to resolve this error/bug. But anybody give comments.
May be you can try this trick: Install OOffice in an other place (different from /opt)
This is not sure, hope it works!

Haven't tried OOo 3.0 yet, I'll convert it to sfs4 for my Puppy 4.3.1.
But, of course I prefer the latest version.
Does anyone know the root of this problem?

I went the other route....installed xampp to another location...but that was a problem....lots of code in xampp want to see things in /opt

I am using OxygenOffice that ecomoney made available:

Both the sf3 and sf4 I converted work fine with xampp1.7.2
The symptoms are identical under both ChoicePup and Puppy431.

The errorlog had several entries indicating that access to / was not available....so it appears to be a permission problem.
Most likely someone with better technical skills than I needs to post about the problem in the xampp and OpenOffice forums....

The openOffice installer wants to place it in /opt ... can't find a way to specifiy a different location.

Do you have an oo..3/3.1..sfs?
1. Mount this .sfs file
2. make new directory openoffice in /usr/local -> then you will have /usr/local/openoffice
3. In the place you'd mounted the .sfs file copy two directories openoffice.org and openoffice.org3 to /usr/local/openoffice -> Then you will have two dir /usr/local/openoffice/openoffice.org and /usr/local/openoffice/openoffice.org3.
4. Go to directory /usr/local/openoffice/openoffice.org3/program and make 6 symlinks of sbase, scalc, sdraw, simpress, smath and swriter to /usr/bin (or /usr/local/bin)
5. Now you can test your openofice. Open rxvt type in:
# swriter
6. If you like to make shortcut on desktop: You can create the *.desktop files in /usr/share/applications ...
(After these steps you can unmount the mounted .sfs file
NB: You can install openoffice on any place and then move it to other place - This is a tricks to make "more portable".
(Error: typo)

Thanks for the step-by-step....OO works fine, and xampp now runs as it should.
Is there a fairly simply way to edit the OO sfs file to have it install OO in
the new directory? I tried dir2sfs ... but that did not create the menu entries and the desktop icons. I think having an sfs for an alternate location for OO would hemlp a lot of folks who want to run xampp.

CONFIRMED: OpenOffice.org 3.0.0 sfs works fine with XAMPP 1.7.2.
I mount the ooo-311.sfs file and use it directly.
