Lobster,

Gposil is very specific about the download technique.

try running this from terminal.

Code: Select all

wget -t0 -c http://www.dpup.org/test/dpup482beta3-2.6.30.5/dpup-482beta3-2.6.30.5.iso

dpup 482 drops wireless connection about every hour. (Airlink USB dongle)

I've used many different pups on this laptop, (Tosh w/ Pent M) and have never had dropped connection probs.

I'm running 482 from a live CD. Not installed as of yet.
It seems to run quicker than previous pups, so that's a plus.
Looks like it could become a great Pup!

I hope I posted this in the right thread.

The next version of dpup482 includes support for the Slackware 13.0 archives .txz as well as .xz and tar.xz, so I put together a pet that will update both tar and add support for .txz, .xz and tar.xz in XArchive.

It should work in all other versions of Puppy.

azstew ,

Could you tell me more about the prob you are having. My youngest son has Pentium M Toshiba Laptop and has been running beta3 for a week now with no probs...so something else may be in play here...when the con drops, check logs and let me know what is happening....I really want to track down all (reasonably recent) laptop probs before we release this...

Cheers

Will do, later.

Right now I'm back on Boxpup, no probs.

482 dropped 6 times, in 6 hours, yesterday.

Maybe it was just a fluke.

I'll try again and see if I can get the info you need.

BTW, nice work.

Thx!

Hi there, I'm on beta3, seems good.
Is it just me or I really didn't have to switch on numlock on startup?

@dejan555

it is not just your imagination numlock is automatically set to ON. Now with my laptop with no number pad I have to turn it off after every boot. I guess fair is fair.

UNLESS... the great and masterful gposil is able to add a check box to his beautiful start-up setting script that allows us to set it how we would like it to boot in the future Image Image

@dejan555, thank you sir. I will add that to my repertoire.

btw... (off-topic) I love your puppy-look webpage. I find it very well organized and was one of the first things I was able to understand after switching to linux (puppy). :D

Errr, sorry if this has been mentioned but beta 3 doesn't load sfs's for me, I put'em in /mnt/home, convert to sfs4, they are named *_482.sfs and I see them in bootconfig dialog, and I leave config to load all with _482 in filename, I rebooted like 10 times but nothing. :?

The converted sfs file will end with *_482.sfs4. Recheck to make sure the sfs4 files are actually placed in /mnt/home and don't select any converted sfs file that doesn't end in 4.

I did. :)
Like I said they do have _482 in filename, and yes they are placed in /mnt/home I even made one while I was on livecd using dir2sfs so it can't be incompatible with dpup. I even edited /etc/rc.d/BOOTCONFIG manually, and when I rebooted it said usual "Updating Layered Filesystem" but didn't load them anyway.

I just downloaded and did a frugal install of 482 beta3 and two things hit me right off.
I have a screen resolution of 1280x1024. That is ok.
The initial first boot settings window that pops up is ok.
But...
Both the locale and timezone windows, even though they have a vertical scroll bar, seem to be very long.
That is to say that the top of the windows is at the top of my screen and the bottom is off the bottom of my screen.
So considering they both have a vertical scroll bar, do they really need to be that tall?
