Thanks.

@Caneri,

Uploaded the French and Spanish sections of /custom tonight.

Afraid that's all I can do this month due to BW limitations. ( I had lots of bad transfers which needed re-doing.)

Could I please clarify that a URL for CA also works for ASIA?

Example for NOP:

http://www.puppylinux.asia/tpp/NOP/ -- will work

http://www.puppylinux.ca/tpp/NOP/ -- will also work

and they will be one and the same file?

Next question: Which one to use for long-term access, CA or ASIA?

Thanks for this project, Eric.

Wow...thanks again for all the help. It's no wonder I like this community so much..cheers all!

@Raffy,
First thank you for the donation!! I'm almost paid up for the year now...hooray!! and thanks to all the other donations as it keeps this project alive.

Yes both domains will point to the same account thus the same file.
I won't move the domains anymore as it breaks urls.
I guess .ca would be the main one for me. If some of the users want .asia it can be arranged.

Some interesting stats,
hard drive usage 120036 / 300000 MB
We have lots of space on the drive so there is room to grow.
This account will not handle the big bandwidth iso files but ttuuxxx/libs and most others are ok so upload if you want to.

Cheers,
Eric

This is a reminder to the community to grab as many files as you can from here
http://69.174.102.38/

It will run for awhile but will be shut down and will not come back when it's gone.

If anyone gets locked out from the above url with too many connections please post here and I'll fire up Apache and run it wide open...TY.

Yup Jeff..it's all good.
I'm not moving the domains this time even though the account can't handle the big iso files.

I think we should give access to a few top dogs and we all can add to the .ca and .asia account. Then if there is a move to another VPS the files will be up to date....your thoughts?

Hey..just a thought for growth in the future..Eric

EDIT: I think it's best to focus on developers this time (original mission statement for .ca) as there are mirrors for Barry's work.
So we can just focus on forks/puplets/official puplets and whatever we want to serve to the public and leave the official stuff to Barry and Raffy et al....again your thoughts?

hmmm could I get a .ca account so with the same name location, I could upload my files older .ca files back and have the same links. That would make a lot of people happy :)
same with the libs, If I upload the files could you extract it in the same location again. Like you did before.

Jeff,
If you upload with your present account (asia) the url from puppylinux.ca will work...this will not change...it's the same place.

I went with the dedicated box with 5 dedicated IPs/3 VPS for a year (and a half) or so and it was great all but for the downtime....far to much downtime.

I also will offer to anyone that wants to take over my relationship with igsobe.com and pay the costs, access to the virtual machines I ran with prit1...and may I say it was the university of puppylinux.ca as there is so much to learn..it's good stuff if you can afford it.

if bandwidth is a problem maybe stop mirroring the latest puppy version and let ibiblio handle that, Then once a version is like 6 months old, then maybe archive it.
Same with hacko I think that was a server bandwidth killer. Any single distro that takes a large portion of the bandwidth should be coached to be moved. What I'm getting at is that you don't want one single release to messup the whole months downloads to thousands of apps. I guess that is the price to pay for a popular release. So the way I see it for the time being .ca could be a repo for apps and small bandwidth iso's

Yup it's a balancing act for sure. Hacao can not be hosted on this shared account (sorry Truong) but teenpup and others are just fine.

I'm not planning on populating Barry's files as well, unless there is a need.

If/when I get another dedicated box then we can discuss official files..other than that we are focusing on developers and puplets or forks. Sorry but that's all I can do with this account for now.

But...let's see what I can find for another VPS with BIG bandwidth or whoever takes over the igsobe.com account..Eric

Hi All,

Just a note to say there are a few guys that will be helping on .ca and .asia as admin.

ttuuxxx, davesuurey and Cat Dude now have ftp access to larger areas of the accounts so they can upload files from various places into larger areas of the domains.

I've asked tlchost if he will help as well to spread out upload bandwidth.

I'm taking a break from the forum with all the garbage starting again..you know, it really puts me off my kippers for breakfast.

Eric

Please use email to contact me..thanks for all the help guys. It's why I like this community so much.

Hi All,

Just to tidy up a bit....the virtual machines are now shut down.

If anyone wants to access anything in particular please email me as the files will exist for a little while yet before I delete the virtual machines and turn the server back to the host/owner.

I want to thank Prit for all his help on the vms...it's been a fantastic learning experience!!

I also want to add that the Hiawatha web server is VERY good as it handled the considerable load on these machines without any problems and allowed us to filter out the bots, bad guys and all 'round pains in the arse with ease...Well done Hugo from Hiawatha!!

There should be enough eyes on the working puppylinux.ca and .asia so any request from users can be directed to ttuuxxx, Cat Dude and davesurrey..thanks all for the help.

Best Regards,
Eric

PS: I forgot to thank John at igsobe.com as well. Even though we had some snafus, the experience with John has been well worth the time and troubles.
PS: @coolpup..when you lock your directory again I'll fix it for you...lol...gotcha ;-) just email me...sorry I couldn't resist.

Ok...tlchost will join the group that helps out on puppylinux.ca and .asia..thanks Thom.

So to be clear...direct queries to ttuuxxx, Cat Dude ,davesurrey and tlchost if you need files uploaded to the servers. I think I'll ask to have files approved for awhile in case some shmuck tries to get a file uploaded that isn't Puppy based, open source and legal..but I also trust the guys so we'll see how it goes.

I will not add anymore ftp user as it seems a tad too dangerous lately.

If anyone get into trouble with permissions (yes you coolpup) email me and I'll fix it.

All the best to the community..it's been wonderful and I learned lots.
Eric
