Keyboard Map Switcher and Flag

I'm brand new to Puppy and I'm discovering Puppy 4 which I love. What I have is a request / suggestion for Pet or scriopt or widget or something to achieve the following:

I want the ability to be able to switch keyboard maps in the middle of a document from one language to another. I often work with English and French translation documents and sometime Spanish.

In Windows I simply add the keyboard layouts I want to my computer then when I want to switch there is Language ICON in the System tray, Click it and you get a list of keyboard maps available to select. Select the one you want and the Icon indicates the language. EN for English, FR for French etc.

Also doing this sets the language for the application being used at the time, so I can have one document open in a window where the language is set to English and another one where the language is set to French, making document comparisons and changes easy.

Can Puppy have a system tray ICON showing the language map in use and trigger a list on mouseover allowing you to switch langauges for that window?

I need this now ideally rather than in the next release - although hopefully people will find this useful enough that it is included in any future release as well.

At the moment I boot from live CD, with a pupsave file to record my settings, although I am trying to set this up to a frugal install on a new partition of my windows hard drive, once I understand what I am doing. So the fix needs to work in both.

THe best would be to have a little flag of the country whose language is being used in the bottom tray so it is always visible but changes according to the window being used. I'm thinking of the flags on the puppyorg site, so the ENglish keyboard would give you a Union Jack, the FRench one a Red white and Blue tricolour, the US one the Stars and Stripes - if that was all possible it would be really cool!

Hope that isn't too difficult?

Thanks ttuuxx
I checked the link in the startup folder and it was still pointing to the zipped package so I made a new link to the installed file and it worked first time

Sorry didn't get back on here to tell you yesterday it was late in the UK

It's fantastic though - love the flags - so cool

where else could i get bespoke software amendments so fast? you are a real star. Cheers.

Well done STG, glad ttuuxxx was able to help

BarryK - Suggestion:,
I suggest that this simple addition be added to mainstream Puppies, as it adds to both universality & usefulness to international speakers/translators & such

thanks

Have you fixed the menu shortcut in the startup folder, [pointing to the zip] so others don't have to do the new link, as STG did?

That pet is exactly what I'm looking for. Supposedly I can add a second keyboard layout through the puppy setup (xorg option) but I can't figure it out. Will this pet work on 5.2.5? I ran it but nothing happened. Can you give me some instructions? I'm a 2-week newby and have absolutely no clue as to what I'm doing. But I'm a Dvorak guy - completely lost on a qwerty - but need to make qwerty available for my spouse, who I'm trying to wean off windows.

Thanks for the help. Hope somebody sees this - it's an old post....
