For those of us with slow, slow dialup connections, an FTP download site for Puppy 4.31.1 would be very welcome.
Hail Puppy!

I hit a strange problem Ttuuxxx. Installed ttcorefont.pet as I have done so many times in the past, but Firefox does not pick them up. Any thoughts? I set prefs to allow web sites to use their own fonts...................
Using 'main'.

Unetbootin |
|
Would it be possible for you to add Unetbootin to this puplet? I am having difficulty getting it to work. Probably something simple I am missing.
By the way, I really appreciate all the work you have done thus far.

Got it running today and Firefox is twitchy, crashes at anything.
The only web site it won`t crash on is Google, even Yahoo crashes it!
I assume it needs FlashPlayer? Why is this always an addon?
Aqualung starts new player for every song clicked in ROX. Xine didn`t.
And it doesn`t stop running when you close it, it goes to the tray. Bad...
As little as I liked Barry`s 400 SeaMonkey, it`s better in a lot of ways.

I made it to open just one window at a time, before it was like select 10 songs with streamtuner and have 10 windows, It goes to the tray so you can listen to music and surf the next which is handy, but you can disable the tray feature in the preferences.

ttuuxxx, you just work on getting over your cold and try not to take offense when one person prefers one application to another one. its all about choices.
sunburnt (my wife is a dermatologist and would definitely lecture you about that, but...) try using xvesa instead of xorg. i would also get crashes in xorg but in xvesa it has never crashed once for me. and just b/c firefox is supported mainstream so much more it really makes it worth it.

FWIW, I'm running FF 3.5.3 on Ttuuxxx's 4.31, "official" 4.30, DPup, 2.14 X11 and 2.20 and have had zero crashes. Since I'm testing a lot i try to crash FF and I can't....on my equipment anyway.
Still not satisfied w/ ff3.53 on puppy 4.20 though, or earlier......... on those I use Firepup.

ttuuxxx; My assumption was based on many Puppies I`ve tried.
I really thought Pup-431 would have it, maybe there`s a difference?
First time I`ve tried Aqualung, there`s probably behavior settings.
Different apps. are always a new curve, one mans improvement is...
Yep... That`s my experience, write an app. and the next PC it crashes.
Semperon 2400+, 256 MB ram, ATI 7500 Radeon, std. desktop PC.
I`ll try with less apps. running, if SFS file loads to ram maybe low mem.

Bored again so I grabbed my old 501 mhz AMD K-6 off the shelf to try out Puppies 4.31.1 running live.I was surprised that such a new kernel even booted but no problem.
Firefox works pretty well, no crashes, but scrolling and flash performance are not the greatest.....not horrible but not great either.
Hard to find anything up-to-date that will work on this thing....presently running a severely nlited XP and Puppy 3.01.
Now, on to 214 X11.....
Oh, 501 mhz, 384 mb ram w/ 960 mb swap.......

Hmm sludgy firefox 3.5 scrolling on 4 and random crashes with flashplayer varying from machine to machine. SInce other causes have been gradually eliminated I'm again looking at xorg...certainly if behaviour varies from graphics driver to graphics driver that may well explain the variety of instability....your gut feeling is that something has to be done with xorg but what??. The most stable boxes are using the generic vesa driver under xorg..hmm.
Indeed one box was crashing every 2 minutes on you tube so I went back to flashplayer 7.
Just my observations.
Well take it easy and hot lemon/ginger/honey is a good one
mike
ps...one setup never crashes....
puppy 2.02. regression, standard apart from updated glibc(was ok before) rage128 ati card, pentium 3 , firefox 1.5 , flash 9...a conundrum

Looks like PCs with ATI cards (Rage, Radeon, RadeonHD) have no problems with Firefox 3.x

I'm thinking that 4 series might need a new xorg compile with extra features/drivers include, something like 2.14X/R have plus a few more.
I won't be doing it, I would rather focus on 2.20 and wait for series 5 to come alive, Dpup was the closest for FF3.5 to run as smooth as 2.14X on my pc out of the box. So I bet that X-server has few more modules than 4.31.1 does.

Having read about some of adobe's dubious approaches to handing graphic cards this selective performance comes as no surprise...not to mention other hidden antics in the flashplayer.
Indeed the changelogs mention various crash scenerios even on windows.
They should have stuck to printing
