Wary5x

#1 Post by coopsurv »

Wary5x is born.

based on my Nearly5x Pup at:

puppy2.org/coopsurv

wary_431... nutshell:

Barry's modified official 431 with his wary 511 retro.

my cpup4x is an 431 build... less bloated pkg updates for sakes keep.

meaning... speed and function of Barry's most stable 2.17.1 with modern support... aka, 2.6.30.5 kernel.

Wary5x in short... runs like 2.17.1 with default 5.1.1 kernel.

Result... speed of old yet modern.

for history... visit my server or search posts here, aka... npup5x cpup4x.

updates/bugs... if you will.

keyboard mapping fixed.
mounting issues fixed.
realtek rt2870/3070 wireless usb issues fixed.
grub4dos... easier, better...done.

...and so forth.

bottom line... weighs in at 108mb, stable, debugged and modern... yet p2-300mhz...128mb still smooth... less streaming video.

for bugs... thoughts:

just now uploaded wary_431... bug fixed.

Nearly5x... npup5x
Wary5x... cpup4x

not one for fancy titles and keepin' it simple allows for faster updates... aka, less re-write of server xml for links.

In short... Wary5x is next generation Nearly5x.

as to naming... npup5x cpup4x.

cpup4x was Barry's lightly modified 431 build... but with the need to bring npup5x up to date... Wary5x was born.

up to date... meaning modern lappy/etc designers love to fiddle with how an device is called... aka, no it's not a ipod... it's a camera...blah.

this necessitates kernel upgrades to offset such non-sense.

npup5x still runs Barry's 2.17.1 compiled kernel... meaning startin' to fail on sound/optical detection on latest models... as for older... as in my p3-900...256, not a problem.

Wary5x... aka, cpup4x simply solves this by way of Barry's wary 5.1.1 retro kernel. ALL else... less a few are still from npup5x... less updated as needed.

...and I run what I build... so bug fixes come quickly.

Wary5x will run smoothly on p2-300...128, less streaming video as npup5x does.

being wary_431 is new... I will likely post here verses my cpup4x or npup5x posting for all.

latest Wary5x and Nearly5x updates

#7 Post by coopsurv »

Wary5x is in short... evolved Nearly5x.

hence... renamed to wpup5x on my server.

Regarding both... bug-fixed versions been uploaded as we speak.

News:

Nearly5x... aka, npup5x.
Wary5x... wpup5x... final.

npup5x amongst bug-fixes and updates now has hotpup... otherwords displays plug-in devices on-the-fly... or atleast trys too... meaning kernel is aging regarding latest models.

wpup5x is an evolved Nearly5x.

in short... wary 5.1.1 kernel with 431 base... less minor changes to reflect.

...yet wpup5x requires no more resources, aka... memory usage than Barry's original 2.17.1.

Result... speed of old yet modern.

hmm... where did I hear that before???

Done. Wary5x is long-term... meaning my main focus. However I've forgot not Nearly5x... meaning it's just been updated... but being both are nearly the same, less kernel... wpup5x is next generation.

Reasoning... simple.

Regardless of how smooth npup5x, not to mention modern pkgs... nothing can offset kernel not been supported by latest models regarding such as sound/optical/wireless... hence birth if wpup5x.

Wary5x

well... in short, Wary5x is evolved Nearly5x... meaning less kernel, cannot tell them apart in general.

soo... Nearly5x has retired.

Wary5x... aka, wpup5x is next generation. Been debating this... but one mirrors the other.

wpup5x... consists of both 217/431 base with wary retro kernel... Done.

...and latest revised being uploaded now. Any whom want npup5x... skype me or post email reply.

finals regarding Wary5x... since posting is startin' to mirror itself.

wpup5x... requirements:

uhm... same as Barry's 2.17.1. Done.

wpup5x details

#9 Post by coopsurv »

not much on depth... meaning, it's free... simply try it... but here goes:

wpup5x:

official wary retro 2.6.30.5... 431's mimic.
base pkgs from official 2.17.1 and 4.3.1.

wary in short... mimics Barry's release... meaning have not found any better for stability than his alone.

short on bloat and bling... focus on modern support, whether be of driver or software.

pkgs consists of Barry's defaults... 2.17.1... 4.3.1, less updated as needed and trade-offs for keepin' wary5x smooth such as:

qtweb verses seamonkey 2x... although my server has latest stable self-contained.

jwm mimics Mac... less all bling... meaning keepin' it simple yet same functions as flashy desktops by others.

fixes such as realtek rt3070...2870...blah now working proper.

hpijs focus for printing... although latest gutenprint added.

still basic office... abiword... etc, less my latest openoffice w/java at my server.

currently supporting... wine/skype/wesnoth as latest stable sfs... less wesnoth... which is custom.

minor to Barry... major to me... being I am not of his calibur... aka, not Bill... regarding modified scripts such as:

...less eventmanagement... frontend... blah... being more direct, less traps yet just as stable. others revised... created as needed for smooth run.

some less flashy custom scripts for everyday such as desktop management.

wary5x strives to been back/forward compatiable... meaning 2/...5/...lucid pkgs work by default... less additional libs as needed.

for rest regarding exact pkg listing... uhm... Barry's 2.17.1 and 4.3.1 defaults anwsers such.

wpup5x is not an re-invention of the wheel and/or new wave such as lucid. it's simply boasts modern support of 431/511 while not forgetting the past... meaning it's requirements to run are exactly the same as Barry's 2.17.1... to the tee. otherwords it's wary but runs like old 2xx series... down to memory footprint and nearly size.

...and I run what I build... so bug fixes come quickly as possible. Done.
