...Only if the old PC actually works. :D

kandkyo: A Dreamcast emulator is more or less out of the scope of Puppy Arcade, since DC emulation still requires a relatively powerful system, and Arcade was designed to be run on lower-end systems as well. It's the same reason why Gamecube emulation isn't included, even though there are Linux emulators for it.

Yes, I just made one for you.. No frontend, use the terminal. I may make a frontend for this, but I'm crap, and MAME already does NeoGeo, so I dunno...

Puppy Arcade v5 Bling Fix

Posted: Sat 14 Nov 2009, 17:10
by sc0ttman
There's a small issue in the v5 ISO, if enabling bling manually!!

To fix this manually, remove 'above-desk' from the wbar line, very near the bottom of .xinitrc

Or... Use the included pet file, which updates these files in /root: .xinitrc, .xinitrc-bling and .xinitrc-nobling

As before, you can enable and disable bling by replacing the contents of .xinitrc with either '.xinitrc-bling', or '.xinitrc-nobling'

Please Note: The pet file below will enable bling by default, restart X to see changes.

Hey Sc0ttman. I got some time in Puppy so I tried compiling Gens GS again. It worked like a charm. Maybe it will be of use to you. Its interface is gtk native which means it looks like it fits in puppy. This is the milestone 6 version. I like it better because it doesn't have that odd window effect. It doesn't appear to be much more resource intensive. Like .2 for memory more than the original.

Have fun^_^

Works great, as you said.. Takes up a little more disk space but seems to require less RAM...

Still won't stretch the games to fit the screen in fullscreen mode, but that's no biggy...

I'll include this in any newer versions of Puppy Arcade..

Thanks very much.

Games just flash

Hi Everyone:

I installed arcade vs 5 on a 4 gig flash drive and tried to play games on a dell duo core 2 ghx machine with 2 gbs of ram.
I partitioned the drive and put the roms on sba2 . Then I tried to play some super Nintendo Games like pool , lemmings and one of the car racing games.
I am green at this but I assumed you opened the Snes emulator and then asked it to open a rom. When I did this they just flashed and closed the window.

Would appreciate some advice
TIA

Hi Frank, I'm really sorry about the late reply, hope this is still relevant...

First, it doesn't sounds as though you've done anything wrong, so I can't say what you did wrong!!

But this is my setup, as a guide..

I got puppy arcade on USB, frugal install, like you...
I have all ROMS on my USB, in /mnt/home/roms/ and my USB is FAT32

If you type 'snes' in the terminal, snes9x will run with a terminal window that displays error messages, should anything go wrong..

This may help you find out why it is crashing on you... It maybe a gtk thing, but it should be working fine!!

Sorry I can't help you more  , but all the emulators always ran fine for me, on all the PCs I tried.. :?

@green_dome Thanks very much for the extra mirror, I'll add it to the main post now... Cheers..

Hi Scott.

I think I formatted the usb with a linux format so I think I will start over.
Can you recommend an inexpensive input device for playing games? I really never got much into playing games on the computer but I want to set up a machine for my niece for Christmas .
Thanks for the reply, I may even try a different USB stick, for some reason I suspect the one I used if failing.

I've got a logitech dual something... It's just like a PS2 pad.. cost me £15 a few years ago, but I found these on amazon for you.. (amazon.co.uk, though!)

Airflo PC Pad - £4.95
Siatek P380 - £7
Saitek P480 - £7

They shouldn't need any special drivers, so should be easy enough to get working..

just type

Code: Select all

modprobe joydev
modprobe analog
in the terminal to load the joypad

Could you please remove those links on your main post... as well as any other sites/hints to stuff like that ( like your google hot-linking to ps1 bios ) because what is on those sites are not legally distributable.

This is like me saying "Hey, there's this great distro that I can't include anything with because of legal reasons...but here's some sites where you can acquire the files illegally!"

Thanks.

P.S.

If he doesn't fix it could a admin/mod please do so?

??
