NEW Puppy Arcade - V4

#106 Post by sc0ttman »

Puppy Arcade v4 - now based on TurboPup - so your games run even smoother!! :D

It's more focused on gaming, so it's a little smaller than before, and much faster!

Get the ISO now (108MB).. Main post updated.

Download V4 here: http://www.sendspace.com/file/ud1fed

Please post a mirror if you can, I'll do it later... But I got connection issues again!

Hey Trip

The Mob are supposed to be...."We are a top PC-Multiplayer clan based on Organization & Respect"

Where's the respect in coming back here and saying
i myself....have moved on to ubuntu... as its far better then puppy in general.. so peace
Peace to you, too, Bro.....you just didn't need to add the dumper on your way out!

Real respecters don't do that, OK?

Anyways, you wouldn't expect anyone here to agree, now, would'ya?

Aitch :)

#113 Post by sc0ttman »

VBA-M.. Attached is a pet file of VBA-M, an improved GBA/GBC/GB emulator...
VBA-M will be included in future versions of Puppy Arcade.

This pet file should work out-of-the-box on any version of Puppy Arcade..
This version includes a gtk-dialog frontend, and menu entry..

Here are the libs required (all are already included in Puppy Arcade):

You managed to get VBA-M to compile?

(sighs) Now I have to find an TG-16/PC-Engine emulator that definitely works with the CD games... I turned mine on this evening, and for whatever reason, the CD drive doesn't want to spin up. :(
I'll try Arcade soon, hopefully... I'm keeping the system I use Puppy on down at the moment, as the PSU fan seems to want to generate a lot of heat - enough to set off the smoke detector overhead, at four in the morning. (I don't want to have to try to find a new PSU for a nine year-old system... :D)

ZX Spectrum emulator - pet file, with menu + fontend

#115 Post by sc0ttman »

UPDATED PET FILE: with GTK frontend and better icon

This is a new pet for a Sinclair ZX Spectrum emulator

Spectemu works on Puppy Arcade and will be included in the next release..

A frontend is now included, which can be found in the menu, under 'Fun'

The frontend is simple, but works, allowing you to choose a rom and some display options...
Loading roms is now MUCH more simple :D

To check more spectemu options, run in terminal:

Code: Select all

zx -help
This will tell you how to use it.. When running spectemu you can use:

Ctrl-c F10 Quit
Ctrl-k Keyboard
Ctrl-h F1 More help
Ctrl-t F2 Save snapshot
Ctrl-l F3 Load snapshot
Ctrl-p F4 Play tape
Ctrl-q F5 Reset
Ctrl-o F6 Pause/unpause tape
Ctrl-s F7 Stop tape
Ctrl-f Fast
Ctrl-n Normal speed
Ctrl-b Pause/Unpause emulator
Ctrl-m Toggle sound
Ctrl-y Toggle quick loading of tapes
Ctrl-\ F9 Refresh screen / reset keyboard

/aside @Makoto

getting psu's for old PCs is as easy as Craig's list or ebay, search

Most go for less than £10/$15 - YMV if 'rare' but with a bit of redrilling/filing....not that hard

Normally dry/dirty fan bearings cause PSU overheats

apologies sc0ttman

I'm not entirely sure it is the PSU, actually. The thing is, the only real vent in the tower is also right below the PSU fan vent, and I didn't make absolutely sure which area the hot air was coming from... (the old scientific test of placing one's hand behind the tower  ) I'll have to keep the side panel open and see if the fans are actually running, too.

(Off-topic mode: off. Now, if only that switch would 'stick'... :P)

Technically, I'd say it's on-topic, Puppy Arcade is for getting the most out of old PCs, so it's all good!

Puppy Arcade v5 - NEW release

#119 Post by sc0ttman »

Newest version: Puppy Arcade v5 Live CD - 11th Nov, 2009

Mirror 1 (109mb, md5: 3f114a4ffce5d5299c86b0b8ad09e636)

v5 is a no-bling version, but it's user-friendly, while still being even faster ever!

It has a few large improvements and LOTS of little improvements.

Want bling like desktop icons and wallpaper? Easy! Just replace the contents of .xinitrc with the contents of .xinitrc-bling (or .xinitrc-nobling to remove bling again). Then restart X to see the changes.

I will not be releasing a new version for a long time now, as this one is a 'keeper' (worth keeping).
Also, there is not much more that I can do, personally!!

Main post updated.

Any mirrors posted will also be added to the main post..

Sorry to anyone who just downloaded v4!!

...Only if the old PC actually works. :D

kandkyo: A Dreamcast emulator is more or less out of the scope of Puppy Arcade, since DC emulation still requires a relatively powerful system, and Arcade was designed to be run on lower-end systems as well. It's the same reason why Gamecube emulation isn't included, even though there are Linux emulators for it.

Yes, I just made one for you.. No frontend, use the terminal. I may make a frontend for this, but I'm crap, and MAME already does NeoGeo, so I dunno...
