sc0ttman - you're a Champ!

Thankyou so much for your selection and compilation of games here and for your fabulous effort. Your rest is well-deserved! I downloaded your V2 very late last night but will be unable to give you proper feedback for ages. I'm looking forward to playing with the puplet you've crafted.

Cheers and Salutations!

You're most welcome... You suggested it!!
Puppyt wrote:Thank you so much for your selection and compilation of games
Thanks very much, let me know how you get on with using Puppy Arcade...
[MOB]Trip wrote:f***kin nice...noyce..and NIIIICE ... my only suggestion is gaim..or pidgin...
First, thanks.. Nice... Glad you enjoy it... And you could also use Attym for messaging/chat - I didn't add Skype, Gaim, Pidgin, aMSN or Attym as Meebo is not too bad, and people seem not to agree on which of the others is best - so I left in only Meebo!!
[MOB]Trip wrote:how the hell to get xmame games workin ???---basically where do u place the rom file..
To get roms working in MAME, go to 'Options->Directories->Basic paths' and choose your roms path... Then press F5 to refresh your ROM list, and you need to make sure you have the complete/correct romset for each game you wanna play - use the audit tool in MAME (found in ROM properties), or use 'advscan' to audit your ROMs.. You will also need the NeoGeo BIOS file for NeoGeo games, which is easily found at Rom-World.com.
[MOB]Trip wrote:no samba client!?!?! I have another distro for that so no problem
Exactly.. But to get Samba, you could always add the puppy arcade sfs file to a default puppy install... or add Samba using PetGet, it's not too hard.. :D

Also, I've had no problems with X and ScummVM - no problems with ScummVM at all, actually... If anyone else can help hopefully they will, but mine always works.... Sorry!

Also also, to anyone who can mirror the latest Puppy Arcade ISO and SFS files, please do so as I'm using sendspace, which apparently doesn't work in some countries... :(

Well, basically Pidgin IS Gaim - they had to change the name for legal and other reasons. Also, Pidgin is multiple-network IM, unlike aMSN (MSN only)... not sure about Attym, as I haven't heard of that one, or Meebo (isn't that the one that runs in a browser?)

(Yes, as you've probably guessed, I'm a Pidgin user. :))

Yeah, Meebo is a browser-based, multi-protocol messenger client, and Attym seems to be a pretty damn good multi-protocol client as its only around 1MB :) aMSN and Skype are not multi-protocol as you said, but at least they always work! Each of the others reportedly have some problems with various networks, plus not all users require multi-network clients - hence their exclusion from Puppy Arcade - best to leave the user to decide what they need.

Come on, even aMSN has problems with the flakiness of the MSN protocol, now and then. :)

I don't normally have any problems with Pidgin. The only protocol-related issues occur mostly when MS, Yahoo or AOL decide to make changes to their protocols, and of course they do it without telling the third-party IM program developers - like Yahoo's recent phasing out of old security connections, for example - that leaves the third-party clients to catch up.

Reportedly, there's been some issues with getting the more recent versions of Pidgin to build/work correctly on Puppy (2.6.0 or greater). I haven't tried it, as I'm using... 2.5.8, I think, and there was no big need to upgrade, yet. As you said, let the users choose it if they want. :) (Personally, I don't see a big need to IM while you're gaming (someone on my list has to tear his attention away from World of Warcraft to answer IMs :D), but I know there's a lot of people who do, hence the reason for programs like XFire (though that one's on Windows, I believe))

sc0ttman,

I have had difficulty to download any of these files. Sendspace keeps refusing any connection(at least to me).

Is there any way I get at least the sfs file 4.2 version which is just 31mb?

I believe you can attach it with an email. (most of them are max. 1G in file size)

ebits@naver.com

I would be glad to host it in my site since I have had so much trouble getting it. (that is, of course if you don't mind)

See my page at;

http://applepienglish.com/korean_gnome_puppylinux.html

Thank you.

John

Thank you.

John
I've already (cheekily) asked other Puppy Arcade downloaders on this thread if they could mirror some files - because I got my own connections issues right now, so I'll upload the sfs files to somewhere else for now, for everyone, but can't do more at the moment.. (I've got work soon, as well..)

But for now, here are some mirror links for Puppy Arcade V2 SFS files...

Puppy Arcade V2 SFS for Puppy 4.2 - Mirror 1 - MEGAUPLOAD
Puppy Arcade V2 SFS for Puppy 4.3 - Mirror 1 - MEGAUPLOAD

I've used MEGAUPLOAD as a host because I see they have Korean on the site, so assume (and hope) this will work for you!

First (main) post has been updated to inlcude these links. :)

Hmm strange, even Megaupload doesn't work.

I will try both sites tomorrow in a different city after travelling half a day.

Hope that works.

Anyway, sc0ttman, I thank you for your effort to share.

John

This Puppy Arcade is very interesting... could it be forced to work at 15KHz of refresh? Becuse it could be used on CRT's and, expecially, ON TRUE ARCADE MACHINES!! :D

With this feature it could be the reference for every arcade cabinet owner...

I've not tried to manually set a refresh rate, but have read it's possible if you edit the 'VertRefresh' setting, found in 'xorg.conf'... You can also create custom 'mode-lines' and insert those into xorg.conf.. Here is an online tool creating mode-lines: http://www.bohne-lang.de/spec/linux/modeline/

There is also some info here: http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=345943

hey man i runnin this off an eee pc ...mini laptop things.. and it runs great everything works except for wifi... i dont believe it sees the wifi card. but was clickin around and thin i just need the drivers no biggy. n i been meaning to upload but im on a shared connection and were gamers so laggin up the system can cause ppl to want to put there hands n feets on ya lol...maybe i can do now but i gotta get a samba client...hmm gimme a min..

well i got samba...but for some reason it dont see drives...so i had to get of my bum...but uploading now.

o n i found a pidgin.pet so i added that to arcade pup so now it has everything i need....only if i could find a function to turn the dam tap off on the touch pad...hate damn touchpads got a real mouse plugged in. but i will have link in a moment.

ehh the first upload bugged as it "validated data" trying uploading.com but i wanted to try filefactory.com but i still cant see the shared files on other pc and my folk playin saints row 2 on the other pc so i cant bother em to plug the usb drive in and copy the file over atm...so hopefully uploading.com works and it dont have a gay bandwidth limit... if so i will upload to one tht doesnt.. uhh also a nice site..mediafire.com has an unlimited bandwith but has a 100mb file limit so the iso is 3mb to big but that might be a good sight for the sfs files. but chea i will hopefully have a link for the iso ..woo 4am i might sleep though lol.

ight its bout 5am now but here is a mirror hope its an ok site

Thanks very much, hope it works for you.. :D Unfortunately I can't help you out as I've no idea which card you've got and am no real expert, but dare I say that if you read up on MUs posts or ask him something, you'll be fine - he's the man for gpu/video/xorg related stuff.
[MOB]Trip wrote:hey man i runnin this off an eee pc ...mini laptop things.. and it runs great everything works except for wifi..
I've no idea if this is the same problem (is the eeepc a netbook?) but here is a quote from ealier in the thread..
TomRhymer wrote:anything based on 4.2 hates my netbook. No sound, no wifi. Seems to be a problem with the older kernel.
So, and anyone correct me if I am wrong, WiFi may not work on your EeePC, if you're using ANY version of Puppy 4.2.. But you can add the Puppy Arcade sfs to a 4.3 install...

And thank you [MOB]Trip very much for adding a mirror, after much hard work it seems, it's been added it to the main thread... :D

Also, here is a great list of file hosts, for people who need them, for any reason:

Thank you, [MOB]Trip

I am finally downloading it now.

Due to its size, will take some time.

Since you've doe the iso file, how would you like uploading the sfs file for 4.2 version? It takes less time to download than the iso.

I use Gnome Puppy and starting with a new iso will be a major job so just adding the 4,2 version sfs will be much more convenient.

And sc0ttman, Once again, if you have a problem with servers, I can at least host the sfs fil if you like.

Thank you.
