Sorry,
I didn't use Mark's slick dotpup wizard. You'll have to uninstall them manually.

Do they spread files and folders into multiple locations or is there a fairly simple way to uninstall manually?

Thanks! doc

The 3D-control-Center should remove the GL-libraries from SDL-Mesa automatically.

Then you also would need new SDL-libraries, they should overwrite the ones not needed, too.

However, if it works OK for you now, there is no need to upgrade.
The new Dotpups support Hardware-accelleration with many, but not all Graficscards.
For example Nvidia is not supported yet!
With acelleration, several games will run faster, look more beatifull, and can run fullscreen.

To remove, rename the .pup to a .zip, then unzip the file to a folder. Inside the folder you'll find a file called dotpup.sh, open this file as text. In there you'll see where all the files where put. I ( or somebody) need to update and repackage these games with Marks wizard.

File integrity ERROR: Barrage.pup

#23 Post by edoc »

When I try to download (from DotPups) and install Barrage so I have
the SDl files for Lbreakout I get:

File integrity ERROR: Barrage.pup
Suggestion: Download the Pup file again

I have retried several times.

Is this because I am using Puppy 2.01?

Thanks! doc

That is ok, download again.
It is a repackaged version avoiding problems with breaking libSDL and libGL, that happened with the older one.

see:
http://www.murga.org/~puppy/viewtopic.php?t=7237

If your downloads break, try it with wget:

wget http://dotpups.de/dotpups/Games/barrage.pup

Barrage downloaded OK and installed and worked OK.

lbreakout2 still failed so I downloaded and re-installed the dotpup.

lbreakout2 still does not work and now barrage does not work either.

I am running Puppy 2.01 on a desktop.

Thanks! doc

did you use lbreakout2 from the message I posted?
http://www.murga.org/~puppy/viewtopic.php?t=7237
I had repackaged them all, and they no longer include problematic GL/SDL-libraries.
Just checked the new lbreakout2.pup again.

Hey, where did you find an updated dotpup for SuperTux?

My children will ban me to a frozen asteroid belt if they know that
they could have access to SuperTux again and I didn't load it! :-)

Thank you! Grabbed TuxMath as well.

It seems odd that every app appears to place the launch icon in a very
different folder. Had a merry chase finding the SuperTux launch icon.

Need to fix a sound problem. Probably Alsa.

Thanks again! doc

Dotpup games installed but didnt start

#33 Post by CatmanDru »

first, thank you very much for creating and making available the dotpups of these games and for the great forum. the dotpups will enable me to use microsoft products less. presently, games are the main reason i havent re-allocated my Microsoft drives to Linux.

im new to linux and puppy (about a couple of months: mostly becoming familiar and more adept at partitioning a few older drives) and transfering my audio cds to harddrive.

the problem: i downloaded and installed (surprisingly easily) many (maybe ten) of the dotpup games from william's mirror. they all seemed to install ok and placed icons & data in what i assume are the correct locations in the filesystem (/user/local i think).

xtux (or a similar name) ran when i first loaded it and it popped up ready to play but after i shut it down it would and will not open and start. Now only linxtris will run.

i restarted puppy a couple of times but this didnt result in the ability to start the games.

as a note of comparison/contrast i dowloaded and installed audacity and mplayer which both seem to function ok and play sound fine.

with regard to the dotpup games, i assume 1) im doing something wrong or 2) im missing some program(s) or link or some piece of data.

i have tried unsuccessfully starting the games two ways: 1) by using the dotpup start menu from the 'start menu', and 2) by going to the folder (user/local) where the program is and clicking the program icon (not the jpg, altho i have tried that too :) ).

with regard to the dotpup games, i assume 1) im doing something wrong (that is, the problem resides in the operator), or 2) im missing some program(s) or link or some piece of data.

i would appreciate any suggestions on next logical steps to get the dotpup games to start.

my internet access is thru another machine (microsoft) located away from my personal desktop. i move files with a flash drive.

thank you very much, Dru.

desktop: Puppy version from May 06 (not the latest release), Hard drive Puppy install (not live-cd, not a file on a windows drive) on linux-partitioned ext2 filesystem 30gb HD, 800 Mhz sock 370, 384 Mb ram, cd-rom, 'HP' mainboard w/integrated sound,/video/usb, no internet, case open, windows me on disconnected drive, presently only puppy has full run of the computer.

Go to the folder in Rox, so far ok.
But now don't click on the game, but right-click -> xterm here.

Now in xterm, enter
./xxx

where xxx is the name of the program.
This will show you potential errors, usually about a missing library.
Post these errors here, so we can give a detailed solution.

Also run this command, and post the result here:
cat /etc/puppyversion

thank you for your response and the promptness!

i followed the above directions, that is opened the directory where the game program had installed, RIGHT clicked on the program icon, and then used the menu that appeared to select rox-here which opened a window.

the results:

armagetron
/usr/local/armagetron/amagetronadB: error while loading shared libraries: libSDL_image-1.2.so.0: cannot open shared object file: no such file or directory.

barrage
./barrage: error while loading shared libraries: libSDL_mixer_1.2.so.0: cannot open shared object file: no such file or directory.

blobAndConquer
error while loading shared libraries: libGLU.so.1: cannot open shared object file: no such file or directory.

bugSquish
verifying archive integrity...test: argument expected ./bugsquish: 325: cksum: not found all good. uncompressing bugsquish...................../bugsquish: error while loading shared libraries: libSDL-1.2.so.0: cannot open shared object file: no such file or directory.

bzflag (solo play)
same basic message (as first) about libSDL-1.2.so.0

labyrinth
laby same message concerning libSDL-1.2.so.0

play-moon-lander
same message concerning libSDL_image-1.2.so.0

many of the games gave me this similar error message. they probably have a similar solution, for example the library theyre requesting. other games gave different error messages which i'll post later, but i would like to post this for now and work on the fixes for these simpler games first.

my puppy version is 1.09. wow, i think puppy's at 2.0 or something already. i guess i'll be updating soon.

also i found the program for xtux in /usr/xtux as opposed to /usr/local/ where the other games got stored. i clicked on xtux in /usr/xtux and it started.

thank you,
Dru. (CatmanDru)
