Dotpups of several games |
|
Here's some games compiled for Puppy. You'll need to install the SDLmesa.pup first. This includes an older version of SDL mixer, the latest version of SDL mixer seems to have problems with MOD sound files. If you want to uninstall any of these you'll have to do it manually.
If you have sound related problems check-out Jocoder24's ALSA pup.
I'm hosting this on an old computer I have hooked up on a DSL line, so you'll have to be redirected from the very small web space my DSL provider gives me. If downloading sucks too bad I'll try to find a good host. Here's the list:
http://home.alltel.net/williamskd/
What you'll find:
SDLmesa -- SDL and mesa libs. 1418k download.
Armagetronad -- A tron light-cycle game, supports network/internet play. The executable is found in /usr/local/armagetronad. 2433k download.
D2X -- A 3D space shooter. Includes shareware data. You'll want to adjust the screen size, it's under options, screen res. The executable is found in /usr/local/share/games/d2x. 7433k download.
Abuse -- A 2D shootem-up. The executable is found in /usr/local/share/games/abuse. 4518k download.
Epiar -- A space adventure/shooter. Alpha software. The executable is found in /usr/local/epiar. 11M download
Quake -- This is SDL quake with shareware data. The executable is found in usr/local/*. 8791k download.
Supertux -- Popular knock-off of Super Mario Bros. The executable is found in usr/local/supertux. 7656k download
Tuxmath -- Math game for 6-9 year olds. I think this is posted elseware, but this one has sound. The executable is found in usr/share. 1287k download.
There's also a version of Gimp 1.2.5 I swiped from Austrumi. 1978k download.

Not a very exciting screenshot . . .
Just played Descent (dx2) What is the source of these games - is descent 3 available?
Well as I heard and assumed decent games are not available in Linux I wonder what I have just been playing? Sure seems like one great game to me . . . see that red dot - a missile just about to release the guide bot
Sound was fine on my machine - my graphics card (in built savage) was labouring a bit on 1280x1024 so will probably have to play at 800x600. There used to be a way of saving the resolution settings between games (at the moment I have to do it each time I start the game). Any ideas?
So now I could go and play on the PS2 or with Puppy.
Think I will play with Puppy . . . some people get giddy playing Descent. It is a lot of fun!

Thanks, Mu for the mirror.
Lobster, When I run Dx2 it saves the screen res settings between games. I don't know the problem may be.
The Tron game is quite fun if you have a network. Me, my wife and kids all play at the same time. You can play over the internet, but those guys are really good.
A note about the quake game, Due to sound problems it would lock up from time to time. So you might want to save often (it's one of the function keys). I haven't tried it since getting Jocoder24's ALSA pup, that fix most (all?) of my sound problems.

Lobster, the source for D2x is:
http://icculus.org/d2x/src/d2x-0.2.5.tar.gz
Most of these games are found on www.happypenguin.org
Alucard_the_dex, You can try downloading it from me using the link above, But Mark's site is much faster.

I've added a few more games:
Bzflag - This is a 3D multiplayer tank game, version 2.0.4 except the server is version 2.0.2. I couldn't get the 2.0.4 server to work right. See the www.bzflag.org
Maelstrom -- An astroids like game that can be played multi player over a network (haven't tested that feature)
xtux -- A strange game with no sound
ppracer -- A new version of tuxracer, you'll need a really fast computer or hardware video accel

Pre-2.0x Games OK for 2.0x? |
|

Thanks a lot Mark |
Will the SDLmesa, SuperTux, and TuxMath from this mirror run OK under
2.0x or do I need to get newer versions from another Puppy site, please?
Our son and daughter really miss SuperTux from the SuSE days and they'd benefit from TuxMath.
Thanks! doc

HALT!! Step away from the download button
Don't use the SDLmesa.pup! It was pre-Xorg.
Use Marks SDL and 3d wizard dotpups. Though, you probably don't need 3D acceleration for Tuxmath and Supertux.
Other than that they should still work, though I should update them. PPracer had a bug which stoppped you from advancing, Armegatronad has many later versions now.

The children were anxious so I had downloaded and installed the SDL, SuperTux, and TuxMath. They all appear to be working, though I think they won't run full screen.
Thanks for updating things. When I go to replace these with Puppy 2.0x/xorg friendly versions will I have to try to uninstall them manually somehow or is there an automated mechanism?
Thanks again! doc
