have you tested 1.39b, if it works for you / your son?

ok, some progress report:
i've got a new compile of 1.39b that works (at least) for me. i've tested recording with a micro, works. export to mp3, works, effects work.
it's once again a static compile.

steps:
1. exchanged taglib-files in lib-src with original-sources taglib-1.5
2. edited ./configure line 5869: deleted "--disable-alsa" as this seems not to be a good idea to me
3

Code: Select all

./configure --build=i486-t2-linux-gnu --enable-static --prefix=/usr --sysconfdir=/etc --localstatedir=/var --without-ffmpeg --with-lib-preference="local" --with-libsamplerate
- note that ffmpeg is disabled, as it would need a new compile of ffmpeg. as it is only used to import/export some formats...
- this time i compiled without jack

this build does not need any additional libs (on 4.21).

Download: http://puppylinux.asia/tpp/aragon/audacity-1.39b-2/

I've put that one in the subdir, to avoid confusion.

Size is about 6 mb, seperate Language-Pack 2 mb.

Please report back.

NOTE:
- might fail on puppys withh alsa < 1.0.20

Hmmm...retested on a setup with alsa 1.0.20..this time it records ok so I guess the alsa version matters.
Would still need a longer testing period as the other previous problem was that recording is ok but after a period of usage (not continous) it becomes stuttery

Oh, OK, cool!

Perhaps I should make my son do things in Spanish or Mandarin Chinese or something ... help him to learn a new language ...

Thanks!

Same quicks in audacity

Audacity has been too hard to live with in Ubuntu so I tried your build in Puppy. I thought pulseaudio might have been the problem. Looks like it works about the same in Puppy; Audacity freezes on exporting to mp3, but not every time.

Puppy is great though!

I think pulsaudio is still used internally.
I gave up and am now using 0.2.4 which has the vu meters but uses oss...nice and reliable. Built from the debian packages
