J2SE(TM) Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 3 Multi-language (JRE-1.5.0_03):
On the How To Install a DotPup page (http://www.goosee.com/puppy/wikka/DotPups) it says that "the latest version is 1.5.0_03, but it is not available yet on their manual download page." But actually you can download it manually from the Sun Developer Network at http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/download.jsp. Although, you have to accept a license agreement, first....

i saw your post, but my dotpup program can't download directly from the webpage with update 3 ... it can download directly from the manual download page, but that version is still update 2

Guest2, if I understand your post, the installer either gets removed or can be removed after java is installed, but even then java still weighs in at 84M?
Yikes! I wanted java on my USB keydrive and that's a lot!
is there a way to "trim the fat"?

yes, the java folder is 84 megs after it is installed

there are alternative java run time environments (and sdk's) ... for example:

http://www.kaffe.org/

http://sablevm.org/

i think they are smaller, but some programs may not run on them ... Azureus would not run properly on 1.5.0_02, but they are supposed to have fixed that, so it will run on 02 now

prior experience with kaffe and blackdown were not good (were the default java install under Mandrake).
