Hi

Recently i have been messing around with Lightscribe software, and decided to put together the following .pets
I made them from the contents of some .rpm packages that i found on the LaCie website.

They work fine in Puppy-4.0 (k2.6.21.7)

Here is a snippet from the Manual

4L consists in two distincts parts.
■ The first part is a command-line based tool, 4L-cli, providing all the LightScribe functionnalities through a small set of subcommands.
Only BMP images can be printed with 4L-cli.
■ The second part, 4L-gui, is a graphical application that allows to load, scale and print an existing image file on a LightScribe disc. Several of
the most common image formats are supported (BMP, PNG, JPEG and GIF).

After installing both .pets
do the usual and open a terminal and run fixmenus
if using jwm, then restart jwm.

You should now have a new Menu entry: Graphic > Lacie Lightscribe Labeler
this will start the 4L-gui application.

• Install this one first:
  lightscribe-1.8.15.1-linux-2.6.pet
  md5sum
  
  Then this one:
  4L-1.0-r6.pet
  md5sum
  
  Here is a copy of the Manual LightScribeLabelerLinux_en.pdf
  
  Username = puppy
  Password = linux
  
  
  • Note:
    If you are using a later (newer) version of Puppy than version 4.00,
    you may not get a menu entry appear, if that happens See this post further down the page

You can create your own templates with the help of the GIMP script attached GIMP_CD_label_script-fu.tar.gz
Just extract it, and put it in your gimp scripts directory.
I put mine here: /root/.gimp-2.4/scripts/CDlabel3.scm

You will then find it in the tools dialog: Xtns > CD label

It has several disc options to choose from.

When you have finished creating it, you can save it as a BMP, PNG, JPEG or GIF (it doesn't really matter)
Insert a Lightscribe disc into your Lightscribe burner,
then fire up the Lightscribe software and import the image (Top Left Icon),
you can manually scale it to fit if you like.

Then click on the Top Right Icon (Print), and in the next window click on Preview.
If everything looks OK, click on Print then sit back and wait.

Note:
Text on a curve (concentric with center of disc) will print a lot quicker than if it is straight across the disc.

P.S
The observant amongst you will notice that the final image has a bit more text on it,
that was added several days after the rest was done.

Here is another one i have just done.
The Lightscribe app said it would take 14 minutes to do, but it actually took 18 minutes.

It was faded out at the top (and bottom) to allow me to add some text at a later date.
The photo of the disc doesn't really do it justice (i can never get a decent shot)
it looks a lot better "in the flesh" so to speak.

Well 2 years 4 days later.

I had already installed all the software but random placement in Gimp was a pain in the rear end. The Gimp script really helped a lot.

Hmmm. Had not seen this before.

Does anyone have links to the dotpets at the top of this thread? They are on the puppylinux.asia server that is now defunct. I have a lightscribe drive - although I don't use it for such, seems kinda gimmicky - it would be good to have the appropriate software for it.

Thanks for the update Catdude. It didn't create a menu entry for me in 5.28, but running 4L the program works. I had forgotten how ordinary the software itself is, but it works!

No problem mate.

As to the menu entry,
for some unknown reason, during installation the Categories= line in the .desktop file was changed.

It should have been: but it was changed to: This also happened in Puppy-4.32.

Simply edit the .desktop file, then run: or if you are using Openbox: Menu > Openbox > Refresh menu

You should then have a menu entry.

Thanks for the menu tips Catdude.

Good thing about Puppy, and this forum, is recently there were some posts about editing menus which I glanced over, and even though your pet didn't do the menu perfectly, I still got it going anyway!

download link doesnt work anymore. any chance to get it from somewhere again?
