Hi edoc that would be a question for Barry, but I'll still give a point a view :) Really it would come down to how Barry builds it, The updated packages have been compiled manually and not taken from another another linux os repo, So if he wanted to he could build it using the older unleashed script way, or he could use the woof build scripts. I would say its a woof build but not really a true woof, lol

Perhaps the "true" WOOF Puppy versions will begin at 5.0?

remastered main sfs filename

#48 Post by shinobar »

Hi Barry
don't you allow remastered main sfs file named 'ppa-422a.sfs' for example.
i mean the line 409 in init script:

Code: Select all

FND_PUPXXXSFS="`find /mnt/data -maxdepth 2 -xdev -type f -name ${DISTRO_FILE_PREFIX}-${DISTRO_VERSION}.sfs | grep -v ' ' | sed -e 's%^/mnt/data%%g' | tr '\n' ' '`"

well initially I think that was his plan, That the first official woof will be 5.0, but then he got all retro like and revisited 2.18 and 4.3, which I don't think was his initial objective, but made a lot of sense anyways. I guess we'll wait for the 4.3 official release and read the release notes :)

Bonjour à tous,
There is a problem with Remasterpup2. When viewing this window below and when i click OK button, the program seems to loop, it returns the same window. It was the same on 417 version.
Cordialement ;)

Hello Barry,

Not a bug, a request

As you may know there have been a few requests for the puppy version and kernel to be displayed on the screen. Sure, you can click "help" and almost the first thing you see is the puppy version.
I created a small script (Versioninfo)which displays the Puppy and kernel in the tray for sixty seconds. Many seem happy with it and it has been reasonably popular. This is not the request.

Here is the request. :) . Could you create a blank file in /etc called "pup-derivative" or some such. Then, responsible puplet creators could put their puplet name in that file for scripts like mine, or conky or Pwidgets to use. You, (or any future Benevolent Dictator) could use it too; the current pre-beta could have "pre-beta" in the file.

I have put "pre-beta" in this file and it is only 8 bytes.

Here's the result adding that to my script. (see screeny)

Cheers, thanks for reading.

01micko,

That is a terrific and valuable idea!

And Puppy-tiny too. :-)

Running that
the upgrade of 'imagination' slide viewer 1.5 seems usable and very useful
exported a slideshow with sound and transitions
(previous version 1 was incomplete)

Hi

Just downloaded and it looks good - feels fast.

Must play with CPU Freq tool on old laptop and see what happens.

Must also try Wifi on EeePc 701SD and see if it works.

Will play some more and feedback.

Very best regards - Ray

Hmmm, perhaps I didn't upgrade properly and 4.3pbr built with the older e3 pkg. Try this one:

Hi

This is amazing - running on my 5/6yr old Patriot laptop with 96mb ram, (only using 44mb)
1Ghz Celeron proc. and a 250mb swap partition. (frugal install on ext2)

checked Quisp - seems ok - read the introduction in puppy browser - fine.
did not do more 'cos not sure how to work Hiawatha etc.

For the things I normally do - file management, browsing and generally twiddling, all seems good - and considering the limited spec's of my old contraption - fast.

Writing this in medit - nice.

Hope that helps - very best regards - Ray

Edit - it works - clicked start and went to Quisp test page and looked at the examples - phew - so much to learn about all things Puppy.

update:
because the last few releases have been good
I did an update rather than a clean install
Doing a clean install just now to check
Quisp is there and working . . . :)

This entry is made from the "4.3 pre-beta-reloaded"
1. Clicking on an ext4 partition still results in "Error: Unable to mount sdb3". Same result using the mount icon to run pmount. Possibly fix is the one Jesse did earlier for woof http://puppylinux.com/blog/?viewDetailed=00740
2. Fixed, Gparted now recognizes ext4 partitions.
3. Fixed, "Set global font size" now works.

Again, thanks for creating and continuing to improve Puppy.
Jim :)

First post on any internet forum...

Ok, here goes...

Medit, gparted and e3vi segfaults, done this for me
since 416 if i remember correctly.

When i try to run medit from the cli it simply states "segmentation fault", same with e3vi.

gparted states:
======================
libparted : 1.8.8
======================
/usr/sbin/gparted: line 37: 19867 Segmentation fault /usr/sbin/gpartedbin $*

I have a Acer Aspire 1360 with AMD Sempron 2800+
708Mb mem

Frugal install.

"4.3 pre-beta-reloaded" live-cd and full install
tried modprobe nfsd
# modprobe nfsd
FATAL: Error inserting nfsd (/lib/modules/2.6.29.6/kernel/fs/nfsd/nfsd.ko): Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)
# modinfo nfsd
filename: /lib/modules/2.6.29.6/kernel/fs/nfsd/nfsd.ko
license: GPL
author: Olaf Kirch <okir@monad.swb.de>
depends: auth_rpcgss,sunrpc,lockd,exportfs
vermagic: 2.6.29.6 SMP mod_unload modversions 486
exportfs missing?

And now the good news

kernel NFS client working - even from the live-cd which was never possible before for me.

Pleasant surprise - smp seems to be working
conky shows two cpu's working ok but "top view running processes" only shows one?

Thanks
DC

Hi

SMP enabled - very nice - try downloading Htop pet.

That will also show multi-processors and double confirm smp enabled
kernel.

This will get many of the Netbook users with N270 dual-core processors exited - and if the wifi modules work out of the box - nice.

Must see if wifi works OTB with earlier celeron M proc + wifi chip in
EeePc 701SD.

Best regards - Ray
