Wakepup disk and other CD's?

I love the hirens disc. They are bootable cd's with more tools than a sane person would know what to do with....

I am working on a ancient laptop (Dell Xpi P150) that will not boot to CD. I have a wakepup2 disk and can get puppy 2.1 to load, but it will not install.

I want to run the diags that are on the Hirens disc... After wakepup2 loads what would it take to get it read the boot info off any cd instead of just he puppy loading data?

Thanks for your time!

Mike

Boot from CD

If I'm not mistaken, I gather that you'd want to boot from a CD, even though your BIOS won't let you. :) Easiest way is to download "smart boot manager" from http://btmgr.sourceforge.net, transfer the image to a floppy, and BOOT! :)
That's how I boot Puppy CD's (sort of, I boot smb on my HDD from GRUB).

Hope that helps/

Google and a little luck are a good thing. =)

Plop is a floppy based boot manager. Worked like a dream.

Thanks for the reply

I did find that first, but the first 2 times I wrote the img to floppy it failed... Found the other and it worked. Read a message that floppys sometimes fail even though it reports success. Wrote the image 1 more time and it booted. It gave a bad SMK error though.

No worries since the other one worked though.

Thanks again!!!
