How to install .pup files?

#1 Post by jschall »

Well, I clicked on "New Topic", but it isn't, really.

Puppy Linux is evolving very quickly, so there is a LOT of out-of-date information on this forum and in the various tutorial documents I have read.

I downloaded some dotpups following links in the Wiki.

When I click on the file in ROX, it says:

"DotPup packages...are an older package system superceded by PET packages. If you want to install a DotPup package, you must first run the PETget package manager... and install the 'dotpuphandler' PET package."

OK... found the package in Puppy Package Manager, "officially discouraged, use pet", and it seemed to install correctly. But there is no menu entry.

Isn't there any way to install .pup packages with a RECENT version of Puppy?

You did it right.

Just install the 'dotpuphandler', and then just click on the PUP file you want to install.

Installing older "PUP" files, can give you some dependencies errors, but most of them will work OK. I did it many times.

Always check if your desired software comes in a newer PET format.

Check http://dotpups.de

good luck
