Is there 2.6.29 kernel pet download?

#1 Post by linux28 »

My computer can not start with puppy
Show
Making the filesystem usable... done
Updating.... done
Loading kernel modules...
This version can be used to start the following
http://puppyisos.org/isos/2009-01-to-06 ... 1.1-MU.iso
However, in less than a lot of software
Would like to return to puppy how to replace the kernel?

I want to pet the 2.6.29 kernel
INITRD also need to modify the documents? If there is please to attach together, please? Thanks

The quickest and easiest way to get a 2.6.29 kernel is to use the uPup (Woof) alpha release -
http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/dis ... up-476.iso

But if you really want to compile your own 2.6.29 kernel in Puppy 4, get the uPup kernel source plus config file from here
http://puppylinux.com/sources/kernel-2.6.29.4/

I am a novice, I will not compile the kernel, ah, no pet bag?

you can't really do it as a pet, several things need to get modified for it to work with a different kernel

vmlinuz has to be completely replaced
initrd.gz (has to be modified)
and a pet for the modules to go in your pupsave or full install (then some more steps are required)

it is a manual process due to the unionfs and squashfs structure - if you really really REALLY want to use the .29 kernel and not compile it, listen to tempestuous' advice and get upup (or maybe slaxer pup)

otherwise use lxde and get pets of the other programs you want

I do not want to use the new kernel, but my puppy does not currently support the hardware, boot prompt:

Making the filesystem usable... done
Updating.... done
Loading kernel modules...

Are there other ways to solve this problem?

Thank you for your answer, please forgive my low level.

maybe - there are extra and new modules available for older kernels

you can pass options to the kernel by editing the boot prompts
the first to start with would be "verbose" (I don't remember how to pass it exactly) that way you can get a better idea of what is failing

post the output of lsmod after you have booted into any working puppy - perhaps you have a known unsupported hardware that has an update

I would also recommend changing the title of your post to
"Need help getting puppy to boot up" and reposting in "beginners help" with a full as possible explanation

I thought maybe you just wanted the 2.6.29 kernel because of this cute little guy

Connected to the use of top of the 2.6.29 kernel version is indeed possible, if the 2.6.29 kernel pet should then be able to, but now such a complicated situation. I do not know how to do

Other approaches will not work, you want to try and compile 2.6.29 kernel
I am a novice, I used devx.sfs
Is there any easy way to let me able to compile 2.6.29 kernel?

Will need to download the documents?
Need to modify the number of?
I hope to guide the easiest way, thank you

@linux28
Have you tried
Puppy 4.2 SMP 2.6.29.1

http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=41678

Works with my HP laptop - Intel core2 T5600
but you would need the nvidia drivers complied for this kernel
to use 3D etc on the graphic card.

The use of other versions of puppy, seems to modify a lot of places to download the software from here are not well compatible with the case. So, you want to compile a kernel myself, did not expect so difficult.

Thank you for your reply.
