It doesn't matter what I, or anyone else, thinks. Barry will do what pleases him.

I asked an independent colleague yesterday what he thought of it. His first reaction was to smile and say it is cute.

I asked if he would take Puppy seriously with that wallpaper.

He said - no, not really but it was good for kids.

There you have it (on a sample of 1).

If the demographic of Puppy is kids then it is a great wallpaper.

If you want Puppy to be taken seriously - try something else.

8) I don't take Puppy seriously
nor does Barry

However you will notice Barry works seriously at improving Puppy
It is only an OS - no need to get precious about it

I would suggest the attitude is similar to Slackware
whose name comes from the Church of Bob and the concept of 'slack'

Puppy is fun. Fun is a serious business.

It's also now in the boot screen, the very first image above the boot prompt.

Yes it is much smoother, but I'm just wondering something, The black lines on Super-pups head are about 3X thicker than the rest of his body, LOL Sorry to point that out :)

Super Pupp

#23 Post by Minnesota »

1) Attached a much calmer Super Puppy... :D

2) Object of version number on the desktop or taskbar is to be able to glace at the screen and see the version number.... without digging inside the menu's or code or other non visible places. All about convince for the USER.

If the version did not change very often and it was only PUPPY... it would not be an issue.. but since we have many Versions of Puppy and many, many flavors.... it would be nice to see the version same as we see the clock. It is simply a useful item on the screen. Personally I do not have a preference for where it is located...on the main menu button - "start button" is fine even in transparent numbers. Or near the time, or??? :)

Message came in the middle and it did not take attachment, so we try again

This has been mentioned many times in the past, but people like to forget: Putting the version number literally on the wallpaper is a Bad Idea.

Instead, have it superimposed at run-time, by using conky or a simpler text-widget deal. (Neither of which would have ANY visible performance impact unless configured by an idiot.)

Why? This way it can be scripted, so that people don't have to keep modifying the wallpaper between each release to update the version number.

Also, it lets people take the wallpaper and reuse it in other versions or puplets without having to edit out the incorrect number.

And, that way the people who want a very clean desktop can simply disable it.

Personally, I'd like to also see the kernel version included below the Puppy version.

Exactly... it must be a variable field not hard wired in any way.

Hi Minnesota and Pizzasgood.

Pwidgets displays the version number, and a kernel widget would be easy to make ... but you have the overhead of conky, which not everyone likes or wants.

Is there another way besides conky to print to the screen?

(oh, pg, can you fix the poll, I foobarred it when editing  )

Now shouldn't he have some sort of arch revival like a villains hiding in the dark, you know a bad guy, I'm thinking like a cartoon Bill gates with a scrawny frame and a "M" crest.
