looking forward to 482. I was always able to boot with 481 and hope to be able to boot with 482 also. I downloaded 477 and get the b44 -22 crash during boot.

dpup 482beta1-2.6.30.5 up tonight.

#682 Post by gposil »

Ok...slight rethink on 482beta1-2.6.30.5, I have decided to include the entire feature set of 477beta1-2.6.27.4. They are identical with the exception of the kernel...this should give us a fair comparison. It will be up tonight as promised, with the devx as well.

Cheers

Went to reload Synaptics and got an interesting big message.

An error has occured.

E: lists directory /var/lib/apt/lists/partial is missing.

E: archive directory /var/cache/apt/archives/partial is missing.

They are.

Also a message about "unable to contact repositories" as well. Going to check/change to my usual Lenny repositories tomorrow and see what happens.

Are you using an old JWM menu, root menu template? It seems to express in the include section 'add icon' 'add widget' trays

gposil wrote: From my point of view, if 482 tests ok, then we should switch it to the main release, to keep inline with Barry's 430+ releases, and keep 477-2.6.27.4 as the retro kernel(so to speak). Please let me know what you think.

If it uses 2.6.30.5 kernel I'm for it, seems that it had issues only with *.29 kernel. BTW, you can put newer version of jwm maker and gtk theme maker as well.

@ttuuxxx I'll try the gimp patch later today @ home

I forgot that you moved screenshot and totally missed it earlier. Here is a shot of the Synaptics error.

I see no problem with using 482 w/ the 2.6.30.5 kernel as the main release either.Go for it.... :)

James C, was your install a full HDD or just a save file...if it was just a save file, be aware that Puppy does not save entries in the var directory by default...hence the problem. It was perhaps an oversight by Barry in the pupsave file but I can understand the reasons for it. The problem should not occur in a full install, if it does, please let me know...

Hello, please excuse my ignorance, I need some help with downloading the latest beta. I have tried wget but only end up with a html link, it is more than likely I am doing something wrong as I have not used wget before. Could someone possibly shed some light on the correct commands I need to make it work, all help is appreciated.

Cheers

Jason

Thanks gposil, I was leaving off the last section. Working fine now. Will give some feedback when I have it installed and tested a bit.

Hello Guy... (sorry if off topic for now guys and gals :) )

Seems I can delete posts but not add mods.. Please add dejan555 (as a mod) to the Petstore forum :)

Receiving 477 and devx now, get back a little later.

Cheers

Mick

PS. I'll concentrate on 477 now because 482 will be well supported.

First (absolute) impression... 'we are an almost 140M (pretty fat) official puppy... where is the "add user" button?'

*What?* ( *you ponder*)

Yes. I believe dejan555 was helping Pizzasgood with a Puppy with option to add users.

(note: I don't care about it.. I'll run as root all day and night .. but you get the picture )

#Gasp# (>-- silently from DaveS  )

Just an opinion... but I think many others would expect similar.

Yes Mick, as a matter of fact multi-user was on the agenda for upcoming release...as for the fat nature of dpup, once we're happy with how it works we'll trim the fat....

/etc/xdg/templates/_root_.jwmrc contains this section:

Code: Select all

	<Include>/root/.jwmrc-tray</Include>
	<Include>/root/.jwmrc-tray-top</Include>
	<Include>/root/.jwmrc-tray-add_widget</Include>
	<Include>/root/.jwmrc-tray-add_icon</Include>
This is a left-over from 4.2, and SHOULD read

Code: Select all

	<Include>/root/.jwmrc-tray</Include>
as dpup does not include the other three trays.

Err, yeah I just kinda opened thread and did some very basic tweaking and Pizzasgood then did all the rest :P
He posted extensive docs on what he did here:
