Does anyone know of any window managers that can be configured to divide one large physical display into more than one smaller virtual desktop? e.g. so that a widescreen monitor could behave like two separate narrow monitors?
I don't actually have a big enough monitor to use such a feature - I'm just wondering Smile

Thanks

A tiling WM such as ratpoison may do what you'd like.

I'm afraid I wouldn't get away with installing a window manager without decorations Smile

I think fakexinerama was pretty much what I was after.
But I think there are also mixed mode tiling / stacking window managers which might be a better solution.

Framer looks interesting too, but with no update in 9 years I suspect it won't build with a modern wxwidgets (and wxwidgets is a bit much bloat for this task isn't it?
