Subject description: who are they trying to emulate?

Hello all,

Well I am a previous Mandrake/riva user. (Spell check is hopeless! The only word I have spelt correctly is "is"! FF 3.0.8 btw) I am running Mandriva 2009 Spring live ATM on the wife's P4 1.8, 1gig ram and it crawls. Live? Yes, they have gone the way of Ubuntu and made a 700M iso that boots to a desktop. It comes in KDE or Gnome flavours, a departure for Mandriva because usually both are included, KDE by default. I am glad I'm not going to try to install it, I can imagine how slow the disk utilities would be, especially if they are GUIs.

It does look nicish though, typical mandrake/riva blue. The big improvement though is wireless. I fumbled for a while in 2008 spring getting my Netgear 111v2 going, and eventually used tempestuous' "howto configure wifi by the command line" tutorial. This time it connected with four clicks and a wep key entry. Have they been watching us? Good for them if they have. We are open source after all..

This a just a "first impression" review, I only booted it ten minutes ago.

Has any one else tried it? Thoughts?
