Puppy 4.2 is slow; would another version be faster?

I cant see the problem. 4.2 AND 4.21 run fine on this box and it is a PIII 600 with 256 of ram... and I only doubled the ram a few days ago.

ndujoe1, your friend's ram may be the problem. He may have incompatible sticks. I have run Pwidgets just fine on my 486 with 32M of ram. The regular posters here know that. It wasn't in 4.2 but it was Pwidgets 2.0.6.

People often forget that old ram can be dodgy. Especially if it has been swapped in and out of machines many times.

Hope you have better success next time. For the record, I can run 4.2 OOTB fine on my K6 400MHz with 128M ram, with 8M shared graphics, albeit with a 240M swap partition. Anything over 256 ram shouldn't be a challenge.

Cheers

Did anybody tell you to use retro version? or you already used retro? Using retro for old machine sometimes help a lot
