Super 4.3.1, misses updates and some software

#1 Post by live »

4.3.1 is absolutely great, bleezing fast compare to Slax, PureOs, Knoppix, but I wish to have:

1/Kernel, NTFS-3G, etc. update indeed for instance ntfs-3g supplied with 4.3.1 is version 2009-04-04, while their are many fixes and update since then (http://www.tuxera.com/community/release-history/ )
See the excellent PartedMagic or SystemRescue distro in general.

2/ Thanks to PartedMagic 4.9 I discovered Iron (based on Google Chrome) see http://www.srware.net/en/software_srware_iron.php
Already IceWeasel is super fast tanks to Puppy but Iron on Puppy will skyrock!

3/ Extend the default codec package, namely support of WMA Lossless. I haven't found a package for it(sorry still newbie).

4/ A soft to bulk rename files, under Windows I use the very powerfull BRU (http://www.bulkrenameutility.co.uk/Features.php)
Bulk renaming is extremely handy when you are regularly importing photos from your camera.

5/ A soft to bulk rename audio tags(MP3, WMA, M4A), under Windows I often use Media Tagger

6/ A soft for LOSSLESS MP3 editing, under Windows the best I know is MP3DirectCut(60Kb http://mpesch3.de1.cc/ ) - the mammoth Audacity is not working losslessly.

7/ A LOSSLESS JPEG transform software see
http://jpegclub.org/losslessapps.html

8/ And let's dream at Gphoto.

Many thanks and for the very 1st time Puppy migth convert me to Linux.
I tried the french version of Puppy, I 1st post on their forum, but I should have directly posted here.

From the Karmic Upup 457 thread: SRWare Iron (Download, Extract, and click Iron to run) -> http://www.srware.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=1030

Looks like it works in Upup but probably not in 431 based Puppies.

I downloaded and installed missing libraries. Got error: ./iron: /lib/libz.so.1: no version information available (required by ./iron).
I installed that library. But no go. Same error. Still Iron launches ok but does not connect to net. Well I have Upup also so maybe test it in Upup. Starts extremely fast, but unfortunately does not work.
