Hi,
to get a mp3 sound recording of a youtube video:
this also looks awesome and much faster than recording the audio card output (needs audacity or equivalent, as also waiting till the end of the recording... ):

just copy the desired url and get the mp3 file within a few minutes...

There's also JDownloader. It's an overgrown download manager, but it can also download videos from YouTube. Flashgot integration is also available for the Mozilla browsers, too.

Give it a YouTube video URL, and it'll let you download video- multiple formats and resolutions if available- and usually there's an MP3 option, too.

I haven't made a thread for it, but I do have a package for that download manager detailed on my little cobbled website.
