Subject description: Digital Audio Workstation Pup

Been plugging away at it. Based on Puppy 4.2 SMP I'll have it on my server either later today or tommorow. Audacity and Reaper running under Wine. it has Jack, Qjackctl and Wineasio.
Future versions to include Rosegarden and Ardour. I'll let you know when it's ready to download. Let me know what you would like to see included in future versions. Thanks to gposil, and everybody that's been helping me sort things out.
Update: New 2.6.29.1 SMP RT kernel.

Functions sound like Puppy PortaStudio which is never released.

Music lovers will like this one.

I hope this won't be another vaporware.

I'll have this first version up Sunday, I promise. This week I'm going to be working on FFADO and/or FreeBoB to get support for firewire interfaces.

O.K. version 0.11 is up at www.agitprop666.com/PuppyLinux.html Very Happy
It's 143 MB.
Test CD ran perfectly for me. I really like Reaper, very intuitive. I normally work with Cubase or Protools.

Many thanks - Reaper is an evaluation version - looks very comprehensive and if it is running from Wine - seems totally seamless in Puppy. Smile

Audacity Beta did not load at all, even running from Command line? Confused
That too is a wine program? Does not seem to be? . M m m . . . really wanted that to work (just work)

Has anyone else tried it - watch out for the scarey alien - had to change that immediately [I am such a woos]

Ill have to check out Audacity again and get back to you. Seemed to work here. I'll report back. Reaper is an evaluation copy, but fully functioning with nag screen.

Fixed Audacity by using a Win version running under Wine. Was able to trim a couple of MB by not needing some libs that the Puppy version needed. Should all be working now. DAW-PUP 0.4.3 is uploading now. Should be ready in about and hour. Thanks Lobster for checking out the earlier version.

O.K. had to tweak some thing with Firepup, added some bookmarks and a tabs plugin. DAW-PUP 0.4.4 is up at www.agitprop666.com/PuppyLinux.html
Everything seems to be working now.

Excellent, I finally found the thread I was looking for! Dying to see this, having only discovered both Reaper and Puppy recently! Currently downloading!

Let me know how it goes. Currently my audio interface is out of commision,(M-Audio Ozone, poorly supported in Linux), so I haven't been able to do anymore testing.

Sure will.

I did it the hard way on Suse Linux last week, pretty hairy stuff - but I got it working!

Hey maggotspawn, I'm on DAWPup now, please spare me more hours of searching and reading. What steps do I need to take now to start Reaper properly! Thanks in advance!

Click on Jack-Control. Hit settings, pick your sound card and adjust it's settings. Default sound card might work though. You can adjust latency and sample rate. Hit start, if you picked the right sound card it should run with out errors. Then click on Reaper. I just uploaded a slightly tweaked version, but you can adjust yours by selecting Audacity as your sound editor in Reaper preferences. Going to be working on a RT version of the kernel this week.

Aha. I was running one pup on top of another from a previous install. I cleared it out, re-booted started jack with default settings and Reaper worked first time!! Now to scrounge the money off my missus for a proper compatible soundcard with inputs! Did you say therer were issues with M-Audio? That's what I would be going for. Many thanks for your hard work BTW!!
