I'm losing myself....
ok, I have an idea: Mark, if you can, attach one of those two theme you published in your last post, so I can understand how the icons are set and where they have to be located

 No way Mark...I put that sfs in my dev_save directory, renamed to _300 (Pizzapup uses that suffix) but I can't see it anywhere...can it be an incompatibility with squash file system? Pizzapup is rather old...

extract to /usr/share/themes/
This is the default theme from Ultrapup.

Ok, a little progress...putting it in /usr/share/themes didn't give any result, in sense that the GTK theme select in Pizzapup (I think you wrote it...) doesn't even see it.
So I placed it in /root/.icons directory: there you can select it from rox's options; but, again, the change is only in mime icons, nothing happens to rox's taskbar icons...I'm trying to think that Pizzapup had some particular setting....

oh I see... that was a old version...

What do you get by typing rox --version ?
I get here 2.6.1, and if I remember well, the support for standard icon themes was one of the features added relatively late.

I had added it to my themeselector:
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=218890

But it will not work for eden6000 because of the old rox version.

It works like this:
You set the icontheme in Rox-Filers options to "muppy".
"muppy" is a symbolic link in /usr/share/icons/.

The themeselector shows the iconsets there, and when the user selects one, the "muppy" symlink is deleted, and a new one is created.

Like:

cd /usr/share/icons
rm muppy
ln -s Crashbit muppy

Like this I could avoid to modify the rox configfiles, only once the theme "muppy" had to be activated.

yes, I think so.
Your description indicates, that the last links I gave you, are valid.
Eyes only has described there how it works, that is the old way.

Not your fault, I really should have remembered, that rox worked different at that time.
Sorry for giviing you wrong instructions - but hey - now Whodo learned something, that is just fine :)

I get the same situation, Mark, and my ROX version is definitely 2.6.1

When I look inside the tarball you provided, there is no gtk2.0 directory for the icons in the menu bar and /usr/share/icons/hicolor are not used in the menu bar of Rox windows.

To find your Rox version, open a terminal and type
/usr/local/apps/ROX-Filer/ROX-Filer -vv

I'm using Rox 2.5 on puppy 2.14.1, The way I setup 2.14.1X is that it uses the icons in /usr/local/lib/X11/mini-icons for Rox/freedesktop themes, I have 450 icons/links in that folder, none of this 16x16,24x24,etc,etc etc, folders, I use 24x24 icons for rox and menus, and 48x48 for the desktop.
for 468 icon the 24x24 folder is 450kb respectively, when I wanted to change the icons to what Mark posted, it was a matter of changing 5 icons and 5 links. then restart X server and thats it, no changing rox themes, or gtk2 themes etc. Really I think The way I set this system is far better than any other way we've used it in the past. Actually I think I might bring the icon switcher switcher to 2.14.1X and add an extra 5 24x24 icons to the themes to automatically change rox's navigations buttons, the only thing is that the people would have to restart X-server to see them changed. Not a big deal at all. What eden6000 wanted to do is change rox's Navigation buttons, like 30kb worth extracted, not 19MB extracted, like marks theme weighs in at.
Have a look, this took about 2 mins to manually change 5icons without any new code or switching anything. And yes its Rox 2.5.

oh yes, I was wrong

Hm, but I don't know, if this also works in Rox 2.5!
I just tested it now in Puppy 4.2.0.

You must edit the Gtk rc file, for me this is:

/root/.gtkrc.mine
or:
/root/.gtkrc-2.0

You need such a line in it:

Code: Select all

gtk-icon-theme-name="Crashbit"
Then restart Rox (restart X), or run gtkrefresh.

The source for gtkrefresh is included here:
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=26953

I attach a binary of gtkrefresh, extract it in /usr/local/bin

Sorry for all that confusion

ttuuxx,
yes, the crashbit theme is huge.
It uses 128x128 icons to give a great look in wbar and other gimmicks, and it includes a icon cache file.
I just added everything to have something to test quickly.

To distribute final themes for Rox, your solution is much more effective of course concerning size.

aaaaa WBar ,now I see why you have 128x128 icons, I couldn't figure that one out, also the 16x16 icons that comes with crashbit is undersized for icewm, Nice theme :) lots of links but also lots of nice icons also. I might use some in the future. :)
thanks
