Website needs serious improvements

#1 Post by Dasyurus »

This won't make me popular but someone needs to say it.

The various puppy linux websites are a complete and utter mess.

I needed a single .pet file. Searching for this file involved going through ridiculous numbers of pages which mentioned the file, and said helpful stuff like "You need to get this file" (Well duh...) but did not link it, or claimed to have the file, but did not actually exist at all. One page, a list of software packages, went through in detail a whole bunch of packages and what they were but didn't link to downloads for any of them.

The point is, if you actually need a .pet file without using the PetGet installer (say the computer doesn't have an ethernet port), it is a ridiculously convoluted and frustrating process. Someone should try it sometime.

Edit: I did eventually find the file.

And now you've continued the tradition by talking about the file without giving its name or where you eventually found it.

Mess might be a tad bit strong....perhaps it's a matter of so much information, comments, etc.

When I got frustrated looking for sfs files, I finally created an online database that allows the developer, or some other person who knows about the sfs file to enter information about it.

Since the database is searchable, you could hunt for an sfs by name, by url, description...etc.

I suspect that it will be little used, since it requires that someone have the knowledge and time to input the information. I look at as a tool....it's there to use...but if no one cares enough to populate it, then we can search through forums and websites looking for a link.

If folks want a similar database for pets and pups, those could be created.

This problem doesn't seem to affect everyone.

We have not had one single complaint from
North Korea about this.

Can the mouse roar?

My opinion is we ( the big wheels ) will have summits, steak,
lobster, caviar (vomit?) and plenty of beverage. You know,
talk about things and never actually do anything.

We will condemn their actions and say, "This is intolerable!"
Then we will go right on tolerating it.
