SMC wireless cards Subject description: configuration issues
I have had mixed results using a couple SMC wireless network cards with Puppy 4.2 in a Dell Latitude CS.
One of the cards actually works well, the SMCWCBT-G with the Atheros chipset. The card is recognized by the built-in Puppy module, and it performs well. My minor quibble with this card is that the Link and Activity LED do not light up unless I use ndiswrapper and the Windows driver. I would do that except that the ndiswrapper is not saved and requires reconfiguration each time I boot the computer. I can live without the blinking lights, but I am curious if any one else has encountered this same situation.
The other card, a SMC2635w with a Prism54pci chipset, is more problematic. I haven't been able to make the card work using the Puppy module. I can get the card working well using ndiswrapper, but again the configuration is not saved, so it is not very practical to use the card. Part of the problem seems to be that the module blacklisting process does not seem to work quite as intended.
