How do I change locales in Gnome?

I am experimenting Gnome on puppy. Korean input is the ONLY reason I try this. I went into Gnome control center and system > chooselocale country localization. Downloaded (fetched) locale but Korean is not included. So I downloaded rpm package and converted to a pet. Installed but I still don't see any Korean after reboot. I went back to system > choose.. but no other options. repeating the same. Can anyone help me to solve this problem? John S

note: ignore the brown text, I just leave it there, to document the "background" of the black text that follows further down. If ko_KR is not included, this becomes difficult. Maybe it exists only as UTF8 version, but Puppy glibc locale are not UTF8. Newyearspup includes /usr/lib/locale/ ko_KR.utf8 (also the small "micro" version). http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=37960 But I think, you cannot simply copy it to a standard Puppy. So you had to use newyearspup itself (or lxde-pup from wow, with the additional lxde-pup411-i18n-r1.sfs: http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=39154). Wait, I will test... add lxde-pup411-i18n-r1.sfs in the bootmanager of Puppy 4.12. Reboot. Hmm. does not get mounted... yes, it was compressed with lzma. So extract and rebuild it without lzma... Add this to bootmanager, reboot.. install streamtuner with german locale... type: export LANG=de_DE.utf8 streamtuner works! Ok, I upload the SFS for Puppy 4 here: http://puppyisos.org/files/sfs/Puppy4.x-UTF8-locale/ user: puppy password: linux Download, add to bootmanager, reboot. Then run "chooselocale", choose "local", and activate ko_KR.utf8. Then restart X or reboot. Mark _________________ my recommended links |

Mark, You are such a nice person. Thank you. Because there is Gnome Korean version, I simply assumed Korean locale is included but couldn't get it even though I fetched from the internet. I will download and try. John S |

Now I get Korean menus. Half way to a full Korean version. I have to visit some Korean linux sites to see how Gnome Korean input is possible. Thank you, Mark. John
