Need glibc 2.17 for 32-bit Slacko 5.7

#1 Post by yeneb »

Running Slacko5.7 using an Atom processor.

I have noticed that some sites no longer play nice, and for some reason OpenSSL updates broke after 1.0.2p. An attempted download of the patched OpenSSL1.0.1u from OpenSSL 1.0.2r gave an error that glibc needed to be at least 2.17.

Somewhere, someone made a drop-in glibc 2.19 that i think had the solibs included. Can't find it using search.

So, its 32-bit using gtk2.0 if that also helps. Thanks much.

Regards

This is not specifically made for Slacko 5.7
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=96316

Here it says it worked in Slacko 5.7.

Carefully read and do what they did to use it in Slacko 5.7
The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.
When I was a kid I wanted to be older.... This is not what I expected

Sounds like you & Forum member 8Geee would get on like a house on fire. He, too, runs Atom-powered Eeepcs, runs Slacko 570 (his own 'spin', I believe), and is almost fanatical about web-security.

You two have a lot in common..... :)

I have not upgraded the 2.15 version to 2.19 yet. And I'm glad I procrastinated a bit. Openssl is funelling to version 1.1.1 by attrition of all older versions (0.98, 1.0.0, 1.0.1, 1.0.2 are already non-support, and 1.1.0 goes non-support Dec. 2019).

Guess what... you need glibc 2.25+ to get openssl 1.1.1 working. I found out about that when trying out tuuxxx's Slaxx5.7 alpha using an update from the supplied 1.1.1b --> d. The fail notice indicated 2.16, 2.17, and 2.25 were not found.

Yeah, I'm fond of security and privacy. Its an inalienable right granted to me by the Constitution of the United States. I, for one, choose to defend that right, lest it perish from the Earth. No Out of Order Speculation, or Intel's "Cop on a Chip" Management System in an Atom N270 CPU.

Nowt wrong with that. I sometimes wish the UK's 'constitution' (such as it is) was a bit more clearly defined..... But then we have what amounts to a 'hereditary monarchy', so....Nah. Not even going there!
