PostPosted: Mon 29 Jun 2009, 20:06    Post subject: Update on my slightly off-topic question from one page back

Greetings!
My, a bit off-topic, question from one page back is solved! Smile
Thanks, ttuuxxx and vg1 for offered help.
It seems like my problem was imaginary, too many mis-conceptions brought in from XP. In XP there's this difference between the quick-launch field and the tray, which is not carried over into JWM-Puppy Very Happy. It's perfectly legitimate to mix in "<TrayButton ...>...</TrayButton>!-lines amidst the "<Swallow ...>...</Swallow>"-lines, to get any placement on the taskbar that you wish for your app Smile Cool , sorry for littering this thread with my mis-conceptions Embarassed Smile Cool .

On topic, though, as time goes by, and I boot into my other main installations (P3.01, P4.12, P4.21, WinXP (not to mention all the other ones)), it's really beginning to feel like 214Xx is a major upgrade (with my slightly dated hardware) from those.

ttuuxx
If you can pin-point the "C lib locale - falling back to ... "-error, since this affects so many built-in gtkdialogx-scripts, you'll have a real winner Very Happy.

cheers/
MHHP

Hi Guys been working on Firefox, So far I've added
- a direct link to a online to freenode #puppylinux chat.
- FlashBlock
-Simple Mail

the thing I've been doing with simple mail is, well I'm trying to build a script, So it can be launch from the menu or desktop, As plugins go, this is somewhat a first, I've looked for online documentation and haven't found any, So I'm winging it. Smile I've managed to get 80% working after about 2hrs of trying, lol not bad for something totally experimental.
But can you imagine how great it could be? Games, ftp client, wysiwyg, etc all from the regular menu or desktop and at a fraction of regular apps sizes, plus they autoupdate, how cool is that.
I'll spend another hour or so and see how far this gets. It might not be possible with simple mail, but I can see it working with other applications.
ttuuxxx
ps this is the code I have for simple mail so far. And what it looks like.

#!/bin/sh
exec firefox --chrome chrome://simplemail/content/main/main.xul

Just recompiled GtkHash and boy did I get small Smile I removed all the other hash formats other than md5 and SHA1. I'll include it in the next release also.

Just updated it somewhat, now you can right click on a iso, pet, tar.gz, tar.bz2 file and select 'gtkhash' from the top menu in rox"

Hi ttuuxxx,
Nice to have these new pets. Especially an email client. Really essential in my opinion. Will test and of course report back if any problems.

Much earlier in this thread you did say to someone to remind you about adding HardInfo. Here's that reminder!

I wanted to download your small sized Open Office but the site is down until July. Is it hosted elsewhere?

Not tried it yet but are we still limited to 3 sfs files in this or have you added the scripts (or whatever it is) that increases this number?

Two things MHHT says above I really agree with.

Firstly that the "C lib locale - falling back to ... " error is problematic.
Secondly...fix that and you have a real winner here.

Cheers
Dave

Hi guys that c script thing will probably have to be a main focus release etc, but until we managed to work that out, I'll work on the next release, so maybe around #6 or #7 we'll try the local thing.

Okay but here is some feedback:
1. gtkhash seems to work fine..very nice

2. installed libgphoto2 which threw up a load of missing /usr/lib/libgphoto2 dependencies even though the /usr/lib/libgphoto2 folder exists.

Then installed Gtkam which threw up a "missing libltdl files" dependencies message.

There is no Gtkam in the menu and command line "gtkam" gives error
Quote:
while loading shared libs, libltdl.so.3 .....no such file

3. installed xsane+libxsane which gave similar missing dependencies message about missing loads of /usr/lib/libgphoto2 files.

Xsane does appear in the menu but command line "xsane" gives same missing libltdl.so.3 file message as gtkam.

4. Also tried the xmms-1.2.11 pet from tempestuous which seems to install, no error messages, but doesn't appear in the Menu and doing "xmms" in terminal gives
Quote:
GDK warning...localle not supported ...
although it does then run Xmms.

5. Never used Simplemail so may have done something wrong but...
made a file in a text editor of your simple script.
Saved it as /.simplemail.sh and made it executable. Then ran from terminal
Code:
 ~/.simplemail.sh
and got our favourite message!
Quote:
Gtk Warning...locale ...

Realised I had to install Simplemail as an addon so found it (not obvious) at
Code:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addons/5593

and using the script up it came. Great.

However got error messages (getting used to this now) Smile
Quote:
Gtk warning...Locale not supprted....
Loadplugin: failed to initialise library /lib/firefox/plugins/libunixprintplugin.so .......

Hmmm..also noticed that one says GDK and the other Gtk. ??

This is a pretty clean install but the only things I can think of relevant that may be different to yours is that I am running frugal and have changed keyboard layout to UK and changed locale to UK.

HTH

Hey dave I figured out the missing libltdl.so.3, lol it was in the Devx and not included in the actual .iso, hmmmm I didn't do that, But I'll move it to the Iso, where it should be for the next release. But until then, maybe install this pet and see how you go?
I'll look into libgphoto next
thanks Smile

hey dave could you maybe install that last pet I posted and then uninstall libGphoto and reinstall it, then take a snapshot of the missing libs, if any because after that package is installed it shouldn't be missing anything. Below is a list of the deps for it.

Hey Dave I just tried it on a my wifes XP pc live and that libltdl.so.3.1.4.pet covers all the missing deps/libs

Just Gtkam .desktop needs editing, It somehow has two "_" <--- underscore lines in the file, which messes up the menu item, once the underscores are gone, it works fine.
I'll fix it after the movie I'm watching, lol

Here's how I got tempestuous' XMMS on the menu; edit /usr/local/share/applications/xmms.desktop
add Categories=Player;
delete Encoding=Legacy-Mixed
I don't know why the Encoding line is offending to xdg/jwm, or what should be put there but, simply deleting the line makes it work.
