Just like I don't tend to save what I'm working on (and make backups!) enough... the stability of free software has made me complacent

Here I compiled the latest for you, probably you would have to install it and then reboot your pc.

I downloaded and installed no change and then rebooted and tried again. Is there some were I need to move the file to?

/etc/profile ???? |
|
The following line in /etc/profile is not working. The file /etc/profile.local is not found or activated at boot.
| Code: | #v1.0.5
#personal customisation file...
[ -r /etc/profile.local ] && . /etc/profile.local |
However, if I enter | Code: | | [ -r /etc/profile.local ] && . /etc/profile.local | as a command in the console, profile.local is turned on.
I am using JWM not Metacity.

just click on it and install it, then reboot and run the ALSA sound wizard.
that should do it

Odd behavior... |
|
Hey all, I am currently having a very similar issue to the old Superswitcher problem from a long time ago, although I know the cause can't be the same. Basically, I'm trying to install 2.14X Top 7 on my old machine; I've got it booted from LiveCD right now, but as with the old Superswitcher bug from eons ago (which can't be the problem as it is long removed now), when attempting to type on the keyboard in, say, Geany, odd behavior is taking place.
Example: as I try to type normally in Geany, pressing "f" randomly opens Pfilefind, or pressing "d" hides the desktop. I am not pressing Alt, Control, Shift, the Super key or any other keys, just trying to type on those keys normally. A number of other keys on the keyboard are doing it as well. It's like the system is constantly thinking I am trying to use keyboard shortcuts...?
I know it's not my computer or the keyboard because they work fine with any of the other LiveCDs I've tested and I also tried the keyboard on a WinXP machine as well - worked fine there.
Any ideas what the culprit might be?

Hi darkstrike,
Seems that you missed my reply for your problem in page 287:
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=42553&start=4290
It´s a problem with the metacity hotkeys implementation when you start 214X with Vesa and not Xorg...
Regards,
clarf

Hi Clarf!
Oh, sorry, I guess I did miss that! Sorry to post again!
Usually I have the forum sent to send me an e-mail when somebody responds to my posts, I never got one for your response on my page 287 back in April, my apologies!
Thanks for the help, I will give Ttuuxxx's pet a test...oddly enough the keyboard is old enough to not have a Windows/Super key, yet this problem still exists for me? Haha!

Hey ttuuxxx
A suggestion: Can you please put a link to threadget on the first page, with a note to help people search your monster thread in HTML? - soon to be 300 pages, yay!
http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=62236
It's recommended by several people for use searching long threads....
Also, can you put on your moderator hat and look in here - a mere 5 pages
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=68265
thanks
Aitch

Hi Guys I've been working on the next release and ran into a bit of a dilemma, I upgraded Firefox 4 to Firefox 7, yes #7, bleeding edge but it doesn't work, strangely enough, to make it work you delete /lib/firefox and copy the /mnt/+mnt+dvd+pup_214X.sfs/lib/firefox from the cd and replace it with the firefox from the cd and it works, its the same one that loads but for some odd reason it needs to be replaced? does anyone have an idea whats up with this?
here's the updates
Updated Firefox from 4 to 7
/etc/rc.d/rc.network <-- replaced with older version from top6
/etc/network-wizard <-- removed new files and folder
/usr/sbin/wag-profiles.sh <-- replaced with older version from top6
updated od&pr from coreutils-8.12
updated facc to faac-1.28 <--latest
updated faad to faad2-2.7 <--latest
updated ffmpeg to ffmpeg-export-2010-01-16
updated lame to lame-3.98.4 <--latest
added new lib for ffmpeg x264-snapshot-20110628-2245 to 2.14X <--latest
updated lib-xine to xine-lib-1.1.19 <--latest
added new lib for ffmpeg xvidcore-1.3.2 <--latest
added new lib for ffmpeg yasm-1.0.1 <--latest
I updated ffmpeg so that it now plays mp4 and mkv videos, it needed a few new libs as above and a few updated libs but it works very nicely.
here's the link http://www.smokey01.com/ttuuxxx/2.14X/iso-sfs/214X-top8ALPHA.iso
I didn't post it on the main page because I'm waiting for a Firefox fix then I'll add it and release it as 214x-top8

Sounds great Ttuuxxx! I'll have to give it a test...been having a few little glitches with Top 7 on my old machine (network config won't save on restart even though I tell it to, and Firefox 3.5 is crashing instantly when I try to open it) so here's hoping Top8 helps
No idea what's up with Firefox...that's the strangest thing I've heard in awhile :S

2.14X-Top8 live pfix=ram on one of the old P3 boxes.Except for the little exercise getting Firefox working everything looks good so far.
Really like the new bootsplash too.

FWIW, I still run Top7 some every day and I've had no real problems at all.Full install by the way. I've upgraded to FF 5.0 with no browser problems.

Thanks for the quick responses James and darkstrike, I also reverted back to the manual lan config, since people were having issues with wireless after top-6.1 when I upgraded it to automatic.
