Ttuuxxx, while you are at MUT, wouldn't browse not be a more intuitive for the button then view?
Time savers:
Find packages in a snap and install using Puppy Package Manager (Menu).

On MUT in ecopup, I found the word "connect" and "disconnect" were quite well understood. Having the icons for drives on the desktop really does help file layout comprehension a lot with newbies though (that or XFE....how would XFE work with 2.14X? I know you did a package).

ttuuxxx,
Let me just add my voice and say I agree with clarf and OlddogNewtricks to keep Mount/Unmount as they are.

I am a great believer in keeping things as they are unless there is a very very good reason for change. Mount/Unmount is commonly used in Puppy and Linux and I would prefer we stick with them.

As regards what colour and font to use where, you are the boss. :)

Cheers
Dave

Ok I updated the updated, update, lol
I added a box under the refresh image, So now it looks just like the rest :)
I did it the sneaky code free way, just made the image larger in gimp, made a box, added text and voila, done as dinner!
Time to move on :)

Great work ttuuxxxx, it looks a lot better now.

I would like to see some colors in the buttons, the green used before was a good indicator for mounted drives, it could help users to see quickly all mounted drives (even better when you have many of them...). Maybe a neutral color for not mounted should be used, like a yellow or brown, not red because it cause too much contrast with the green... well, you are the designer ttuuuxx, you choose.

Thank you

ok here's a side by side view I had them both running at the same time, The nice thing is that the make-over version i just finished, really didn't grow in size, but you can really see a better difference in fonts.

Hi ttuuxxx,

Well I deleted my original copy just as the server went down !

I've since downloaded a new copy after Eric kindly re-opened 'play' again.

I wasn't sure if the copy was the problem but now I have a better result although still not there yet for me.

The wireless card is now recognised and I can open the dialogue but every time i get to the point of using the profile it hangs at an Xmessage saying saving profile and 67% of the progress bar. It will not progress further and is frozen at that point.

One other thing I noticed. When first started, the drive icons are the drive only, then as I sweep across them with the mouse a small 'empty' ball appears on them all. Obviously mounting them changes this.

No.1 son came in and noticed the 'bug', he approves, he's a big VW fan, wet and dry.

Hello ttuuxxx.
Just seen your new version of MUT.
Looks much better than the original but I still doubt the text is spaced out enough so that when it shows a volume label the text will not over-write like I showed in my images above.

Also even after the code changes you did before it still didn't seem to recognise hdb10 and hdb11 but this may be due not to MUT but to something more fundamantal as Pmount also doesn't show them and gparted throws a wobbly. It may help you to say I observe this only happens in 2.14x not in any of the 4 series I have.

Let's see what the new version brings. Looking forward to it.
Cheers
Dave

Hello tasmod,
Not sure if there are any other Brits looking at this at the mo but you might have read that I have booting problems with a frugal install after selecting UK (rather than the default US) for the keyboard in the mouse-keyboard wizard.
Specifically it forces a 30 second pause at the stage
loadkmap: short read .......... failed
A new install is okay until I make this change.
Just wondered if you have the same.

I tried to reproduce your drive icon issue but I'm afraid mine all come up with the dots immediately.

By the way I guess you noticed that eric's site gives an MD5 file to check if your download is okay.

Good luck
Cheers
Dave

ps glorious day darf sowf. Hope Lincs is the same so you can take that car of yours out. :)

Another (small) problem for us Brits is pressing "U" when selecting the keyboard layout in the xorgwizard brings up Ukrainian in 2.14r/x, rather than UK like other puppies. By gum they call our language difficult?

Hello again ttuuxxx,
I have a swap partition which puts the text outside the box but only when it's turned on & off, I assumed it was text size but of course it's a button thing. Also noticed when clicking 'eject' on the cd button the resulting 'close' button has no white border & with text in purple it's hard to read. Minor details so should be no problem. Font, colours, icons & refresh button a great improvement over the old.

Hi Guys,

I haven't changed any settings so I cannot comment reference UK etc. I don't remember being offered any options except Xorg.

I've tried to get the wireless working. I have discovered from original box the pci card came in, that it uses the Ralink RT2561 chipset.

Now the site says rt61 should work but no joy here, it comes up as rt61 with unknown config.
There also appears to be an actual rt2561 driver as well available.

I've looked elsewhere for the driver but no luck. I've downloaded the driver tar.bz from Ralink but it's a bit confusing as it appears to contain 3 drivers and won't compile properly??

Puppyt wrote:Many Thanks again, gposil for your KDE threads.

A quick update on what happened when I tried running dejan555's minimal KDE pet (kdelibs4c2a) and your Kommander - compiled I understand in puppy4.12 - in ttuuxx's recently-enhanced series 2 puplet entitled 214X3:-
sh-3.00# ldd kmdr-editor
./kmdr-editor: /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6: version `GLIBCXX_3.4.9' not found (required by /usr/lib/libkommanderwidget.so.0)
./kmdr-editor: /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6: version `GLIBCXX_3.4.9' not found (required by /usr/lib/libkommanderwidgets.so.0)
Problem.
However I report success in having those puppy4 KDE pets working in puppy 2 by installing a 'bridging' pet from the official puppy 3 repository: - gcc-g++-4.1.2.pet at http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/dis ... ackages-3/.
I have no idea really why it worked (something to do with g++ and glibc libraries, wish I knew what that meant), or whether it will work with other puppy2's - but I'm confident that this is on the right track for anyone wishing to update their KDE environments in early versions of puppy.

Thanks again for opening that portal in the first place, gposil! :D

Hi I don't have a swap partition so I can't see what your problem is, I'm just doing everything 100% live, could you please submit an image so I can fix the box size and colour. Thanks

Thanks ttuuxxx,

I'll download and transfer them to the troublesome computer.

In the meantime I've loaded it onto todays 'skip' find .

A 1400mhz Sempron machine with 512mb ram, soundblaster card, cdrw, 8 usb and a floppy, all in a case, maybe a bit scratched but not badly.
Can't believe someone threw this out :D
I just added an 80gig disk, monitor, mouse and keyboard and off it went.

Runs 214 perfect, even started up on wireless. I'm using firefox right now, settings are just right. I've been enjoying the news feeds for a while.

I will get the other going though :)

Screen shot of 2.14x3 with tempestous' eeepc driver patches applied. Posting from this desktop using WPA wireless connection. I rearranged things a little bit for the small screen. This is solid. Thanks ttuuxxx.
