I think the Puppy 2.1x version that Ttuuxx is building here includes gconf. You could try installing his gconf package if you can find it, or my package here http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=351445
It is supposed to be a gnome application, but I didn't think Ttuuxxx was including Gnome... if you run ldd on it, does it say there are any other libraries missing? It would be handy to know what it does depend on.

Evince is a good pdf viewer and one I used to use when I was running Zenwalk, but it's not the most lightweight. I couldn't run Foxit as my video card won't support 24 bit colour.

I've got xpdf running now so there's no hurry anyway.

lol are you using 2.14X? libgconf-2.so.4 is included in 2.14X, might be in dpup, upup. anyway I packaged gconf and orbit from 2.14x, you can try it.

also it looks like you have /libpoppler-glib.so.4 I would also systemlink /lib/libpoppler-glib.so.4 to /lib/libpoppler-glib.so.5
probably located in /lib or /usr/lib

Thanks for your post ttuuxxx, but I'm still getting errors;

evince: relocation error: //lib/libpoppler.so.4: symbol _guard, version GCC_3.0 not defined in file libgcc_s.so.1 with link time reference

I'm afraid that's the point where I decide enough is enough, especially when there are alternative pdf viewers which work with most such files. Life's too short..

Hope others can learn from my efforts to get it working though.

Barry's ps fonts he uses is a cutdown package, well it makes since to save space etc, but that could be the issue behind the rendering issues we've been facing, here's his notes found in /usr/X11R7/lib/X11/fonts/README.txt

BKNOV06 (v2.12):
Major overhaul! The "Sans" font was mapping to Type1 "Nimbus sans L",
which was the only scalable sans-serif font in Puppy. It comes in
'condensed' and 'normal' but even the normal looks squashed.
So, have intalled Bitstream Vera TTF fonts, see the link here.
The 'TTF' directory is about 1.5M, the 'Type1' dir was about 5.0M
-- but, I have hacked it down to about 1M! -- but need to be
careful, especially check can open all '.ps' and '.pdf' files
-- if not, will have to grab more fonts out of the original 'Type1'
directory.

hmm and your pushing for a final version, lol

Thats's right.
I did mention wifi wasn't working on my 901 a while aqo here and in another thread but got no response so assumed it wasn't an easy one.

My view is that it would never be possible for any distro to work in every combination of hardware. We'd wait for eternity for that. So yes I still feel that it's worth a Final for the reasons I mentioned before.

Interesting. Is that the only pdf that causes the problem?

I had a user send me that one, when he was telling me how much Epdfview sucks. But I've also seen that with pdfs made from printing to CUPS-PDF. However, I chalked that up to the fact that you are converting PDF->PS->PDF, which is kind of brain damaged in the first place.

Ah, that's one of those pdfs that displays a scanned image, but also has invisible ocred text that you can select. Maybe that is what MuPDF doesn't like. Does anyone have any other documents like that?

What's wrong with the rendering in your epdfview though? Just that the image isn't scaled very well (so isn't very legible) when it is zoomed right out? Or is there another problem?

Hello Smile!

evince

With evince ...full and ...dev pets installed.

Renders as good as epdfview, side-pane thumbnails/index working nicely.

Even zoomed in, it's barely sharp enough to read. Also the rendering seems much slower than Xpdf. I think Evince is supposed to render faster than epdfview, but I didn't notice much improvement.

Here is a side by side rendering comparison.

It might be interesting to see how it renders in an old version of Xpdf. The rendering of images was improved in XPdf 3.02 (I think that was the version), but I can't remember if it was bitmap images or vector images or both. Maybe that improvement hasn't made it into Poppler (or at least the versions of Poppler we have).
The only trouble is, it made Xpdf much slower, so I hate to think how slow it would make Poppler-based programs Sad

Hi could you ldd /usr/lib/evince/1/backends/libdvidocument.so
and see if anything is missing,
also I went to ubuntu and grabbed there /usr/lib/evince/1/backends/libdvidocument.so for you and made a pet.
The pet below only has the one file in it.

Hi, well this is something that should be added to 214X base...

I compiled a new Hiawatha WebServer package, it has the 6.19 version.

What´s included:

Initialization script (Initialization Services with start, stop, status and check parameters)
Configuration file fixed (look here for more information http://bkhome.org/blog/?viewDetailed=01182)
All features enabled (File Cache, URL toolkit, SSL, IPv6 and XSLT)

I separated this package in two pets, FULL that includes man pages and normal without the man pages.

Additional info:

To successful run Hiawatha you must create a new user called "webuser", using:

adduser -h /root/Web-Server webuser

Warning: When Hiawatha is launched it will show a "warning: error redirecting stdout". It´s fixed changing permissions to /dev/null file, just add write permissions for everybody.

Any ask is welcome,

Hi Clarf could you try this one please, Its hiawatha v7 and I made a menu for it, you'll find it under menu/Internet
Also version 7 already has the fixes you talked about in the forum plus, no need for man pages because they are online and part of gui I made up, I also added a few parts of etc so there wouldn't be a need to adduser -h /root/Web-Server webuser
hope it works fine, also please if you compile things, could you make them i386, that's the norm for 2.14X Smile Barry like i486. Smile

Note once you install this, you can't uninstall, if you do, you will run out of memory !!
