ecomoney wrote:It is very similar to the "gemgame" already installed in 2.14, there is a similar game on facebook now which is very popular.

The SDL libraries will enable many other games to be played with 2 series, and I believe some educational apps also. Thank you for these.

Perhaps, as you have so much experience in it, you would update the word processor/gnumeric apps too.
Barry has updated abiword on 2.18 that also works on this one, I just need to install and add the docx plugins etc and mime types, but updating gnumeric wouldn't make any sense, There have been no new file formats produced for gnumeric from what I'm aware of, the later package(including Goffice) versions are much larger around 1MB compressed. Since Barry updated abiword is to the last stable font version for puppy and not the current model it doesn't come with those extra plugins, They need to be compiled and added, maybe the ones from 4.2 might work, I haven't tried yet.

Ps The abiword package will be added near the end. Since its already been tested. I'm more focused on getting the backend up to date.

I'v3 been playing with mut today, I change the fonts, font sizes, colours, the icons were a pain because they were .ppm extenstion, But I worked it out :) I figured out how to give the boxes a background colour to make them look more like buttons, Then I changed the wording to make it easier for people to understand
Enabled=Mounted partition
View=Unmounted partition
Still not 100% happy with the font colours
ttuuxxx

what a blurry screenshot, hmmm mtpaint doesn't usually give such bad results.

I never liked mut when I started to use Puppy, the first thing I thought when I saw those "boxes" was, they were informational boxes, but didn´t notice that they were "buttons". Great thing that your are working with it.

Althought I´m not sure about some changes:

The new reload button doesn´t seems a button at all, seems like a logo for me.

The wording Enable - View don´t seems clear for me... If I mounted a partition/disk then I can view it (view the content), or not?. I prefer the mount - unmount words anyway.

The Puppy logo looks great, or is it a button?.

thanks.

hi clarf

The way it was before, was a bit confusing I figured, lol
when the hard drive was mounted you had a unmount button, You could look at that 2 ways, Is my hard drive unmounted or does pressing this button unmount my hard drive.
The way I have it now, its green which is usually go, and it says its "Enabled"

same with the "View" if you click view, It will mount. and you can "view" your files.

Well I can always change it back, I never liked the working before. oh well. Well at least its clear to read and has updated looks, lol lol

Hello ttuuxxx,
Not been able to look at this much these last two days as have been struggling with a whole load of problems to do with wifi and SDHC cards over several machines. In general, what a mess.

Anyway, back to Puppy.

You're version of MUT is ceratinly an improvement.
I've never really used MUT before but had a look and noticed the following.

1. I have volume labels for most of my partitions.
If I use MUT it identifies the labels but the screen display is a mess.
Please see attached.

2. I actually have partitions hdb10 and hdb11 but these are not seen in MUT. (Nor in Pmount).

They do appear on the desktop if I select them to display all partitions
and they are seen in Gparted but it gives an error for hdb10 and hdb11
Can't find valid filesystem superblock
On this machine I have arch, crunchbang, tinycore, slitaz, ubuntu , fedora, debian and puppy. All of them see hdb10 and hdb11 (actually sdb10 and sdb11) except 2.14x. Gparted doesn't report any error on any of them.

Any ideas?
Cheers
Dave

Hi ttuuxxx,
I've been trying your new mut. First I agree with clarf about wording. I'm quite happy with the old, what you get used too perhaps. Fonts are much better but a size or 2 too large in the boxes. Messy screen display already mentioned by davesurrey.

My personal view on colours.
Green o.k. but a shade too bright. Red for 'view' (mount) maybe. The background blue needs toning down to blend more with your background blue.

And finally the 'reload button'. I never knew it was till today (thanks clarf), I got into the habit of closing & reopening mut when attaching a usb stick so clarf's point about 'looking like a logo' is very valid. Perhaps the word refresh/reload would make it more obvious.

Keep up the good work ttuuxxx.

Ok I'll work on it :) That's why I posted it, feedback is always good :) even if its bad, lol
The thing about the green is that TCL the library doesn't do font colours very nice, I had to try about 8 different greens for the fonts to look clear. Oh ya, lol the background is also behind each icon, lol so If I was to change the background, then I would have to fire up gimp and redo all the icons again, maybe about 3 hours worth, lol.
Probably be quicker the second time around since now I know how to do .ppm images. I did get the background blue from the home icon and used the colour picker to match it up.
I'll see what I can do.

Questions:

What is ROX? Ok.. .looked it up on google... but from newbee..... what is rox?

To clarify if you do not want to put labels on items like the refresh, can you add a TOOL-TIP? As cursor is moved over the item it will give you a bubble or at the very least a line someplace on the screen?

Tool-tip great Idea, but how?? lol I know as much about tcl as I do how to build a space shuttle out of a couple of empty beer cans ,lol
I was only trying to dress it up, make it more user friendly, hover would be good, maybe I'll read a "TCL for Idiots" e-book, If it was gtk, it would be no problem, I could figure that out real easy. I could just take the refresh icon, make and add the words refresh underneath.
Who knows, from a simple spruce up to learning a new language, who would of knew? lol

Ttuuxxx, while you are at MUT, wouldn't browse not be a more intuitive for the button then view?

On MUT in ecopup, I found the word "connect" and "disconnect" were quite well understood. Having the icons for drives on the desktop really does help file layout comprehension a lot with newbies though (that or XFE....how would XFE work with 2.14X? I know you did a package).

ttuuxxx,
Let me just add my voice and say I agree with clarf and OlddogNewtricks to keep Mount/Unmount as they are.

I am a great believer in keeping things as they are unless there is a very very good reason for change. Mount/Unmount is commonly used in Puppy and Linux and I would prefer we stick with them.

As regards what colour and font to use where, you are the boss. :)

Cheers
Dave

Ok I updated the updated, update, lol
I added a box under the refresh image, So now it looks just like the rest :)
I did it the sneaky code free way, just made the image larger in gimp, made a box, added text and voila, done as dinner!
Time to move on :)
