Hi ttuuxxx, I just tested it in my home desktop and a laptop and it works fine. :) It loads the wmpower applet after JWM starts in the laptop, in the desktop machine no additional modules are loaded and not applet tray nor errors shown.

I have a little request, could you add a menu icon/shortcut for "rdesktop" in the next release please (Is this remote desktop software smaller than rmdesktop from Dpup?). Also could you look at Openssh error that I reported before?.

Thanks again ttuuxxx.

Writers-Software-v1.pet

Hello, ttuuxxx :)!

Installed your Writers-Software-v1.pet, and have mainly been playing with LyX-1.4.1 of that package. At first it looked like LyX was not fully functioning (it seems to be the front-end of a very cut-down, stand-alone TeX/LaTeX installation). BUT, when I mount the partition where I have my TeX-Live installation, run re-configure within LyX, it suddenly becomes a fully equipped and full-fledged TeX/LaTeX environment :D.

Thanks :)/

excellent I haven't had the time to actually use it, glad it expands functionality, do you have a package for Tex-Live, If so I'll add it to the package and expand on it usefulness.

OK, I'm using TeXLive2007 and installed it lightly, it's 952 MB .
I admit to not being a Tex/LaTeX minimising genius, though :).

I guess TeXLive2007/2009 is out from standard 214X-builds  :D.

I still enjoy the enhanced functions of Lyx, when Tex/LaTeX is installed :).

Cheers :)/

OMG that is so large, I guess it won't be a part of the writers package I made up.
If I get time I'll look at it and see if I can cut it down.

Hi ttuuxxx,

I found that wmpower version used in 214X is very old (actually 0.3.1), to close the Power Managment thing and don´t distract you from OLPC project  , I compiled the latest 0.4.3 version for Puppy 2 series, which add some features and bug fixes.

The changelog info can be found in:

http://wmpower.sourceforge.net/history.php

Tested and working now.

Thanks for the support sinc, yes it´s just for fun.

BarryK has been working in small packages for Quirky and cuttind down its size, there are some small and usefull applications that could be added in 214X. ttuuxxx alrady did a great job upadting and adding cutting edge apps, we could also check Barry´s blog and talk what to add for the next release (I´m talking about two or three for test)...

I was thinking in add NTFS-backup a 2.1KB pet!!!. Also a PInfo button integrated in the Network Wizard seems a nice addition.

thank you ttuuxxx, you are really fast.

It looks great. I think it´s the right way to integrate the Network Wizard with Pinfo.

Users open the Internet Wizard, look for actual configuration then they can launch the Network or Modem Wizards, after a configuration change (like AutoDHCP) they click Done, Internet Wizard is still open and the new info is available just one click away.

feedback

#2551 Post by ljfr »

Hi,

I tested the RC1 today, except a slight disappointement with icons theme (desktop and rox),working well on a amd-k6, with speed improvement compared to a puppy 4.1.2 kernel 2.6.21.7.

Is this http://www.puppylinux.asia/tpp/ttuuxxx/ ... _214-4.pet
file the right devx for the 214 RC1?
Is there a source repository somewhere?

you will find a more detailed feedback bellow,

regards,

General feedbacks:
-With Pfix=ram, an empty dillo window opens at startup
-The default text editor is geany and the default view of geany is development oriented (with too many editors? leafpad, geany, tcl/tk editors, mp, e3).
-A menu entry for "Setup a firewall" would be nice, otherwise few user will try to set something up with firelog...
-The help file /usr/share/doc/index.html doesn't help much.
-No partition icons on desktop in Xvesa - but they appear with Xorg.
-Sheeppool herd game is slow on old computer.
-It lacks a keyboard wizard at startup.
-The high number of posts in this thread makes it difficult to find relevant information.

And on appearance
-No desktop icon switcher, and applications/name are customized so it seems usual themes are not applicable anymore.
-In Rox-filer, no button for small icons in the toolbar, and when you add it and switch to small icons, A small red vertical line appears when the file/folder name is truncated.
-In Rox-filer, in Options>>Types>>Themes>>Icon Theme, I cannot switch this theme - I just tried with JQ8flat-lite which I installed thinking it should be lighter that the current one.
-with 800x600 resolution the desktop trash icon desk is hidden by the tray.

NB: I had some issues:
-I need the param root=/dev/ram0 in the grub kernel line to boot,
-using Xvesa, each time X restarted with a new resolution settings window,
shutdown / reboot / exit to prompt did not worked, Ctrl alt backspace restarted X automatically, ... but seems ok now, not sure why.

Hi ljfr,

Thanks for using and testing 214X... As ttuuxxx says most issues have fixes that will be added to the next release.

For Setup wizards and other entries a Control Panel will be added too. About Rox-Filer the toolbar is fully functional, you must use left and right click over "Change icon Size" button in toolbar (I think the autosize button is not really needed).

Just wait for the next release please.

I was playing with deb packages today, some for dpup and others for 214X.

I could install evilvte 0.4.5 in 214X, it´s a good terminal emulator with many features but I had to install many libraries and debian packages. I also could install it in Dpup, the installation was easier but I had to use and older evilvte version.

I used dpkg and dpkg-deb in 214X to get the needed libraries, but first to get dpkg to work I had to create some files in 214X. I had to create an empty file called "status" and a directory called "info" in /var/lib/dpkg/

ttuuxxx, How could i call those app just clicking a .deb package in ROX?. Would like to add one click installation functionality here, but I don´t know how to add MIME-types or associate files in Rox.

I liked evilvte it just 36 KB, but I have to find the absolute minimal libraries to make it work in 214X (the deb packages are big). Dpup already had many needed dependencies, but certainly old for the latest version of evilvte...

Greetings,

clarf

UPDATE: evilvte like sakura or lilyterm needs the libvte9 libraries, the additional weight is just 700KB. 214X is amazing, it already has the latest updates for many libraries needed by VTE like libpango, libcairo, libgtk, etc.

The size of those terminals vary from 30kB (evilvte) to 100KB (lilyterm), sadly evilvte don´t use a configuration file so each configuration change needs a recompile, runtime configuration will not be supported soon:( .

I didn´t try the latest sakura version because I don´t know how to compile or customize configuration options using cmake. Then the best option for now seems to be lilyterm, although Rox-term already has the same features in a bigger package.

Hey ttuuxxx, I haven't followed develoment but I just grabbed latest RC version to put on an old laptop I bought, it's a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo D Series laptop with 1 Ghz intel III processor and 345 MB RAM and I must tell you it works very good, well done! Sound works out of the box, graphics work solid on 1024x768 xorg resolution, youtube flash is sluggish but it doesn't crash ff so far. Very nice choice of apps, seems like everythin fits together. Touchpad tap doesn't work though. I did a frugal install on 8 GB ext2 partition and made also a 512 MB swap.
