Thanks for the clarification.

Did you see my other post above asking about your Control Panel zip file?

Cheers
Dave
Yes Dave, after read your post I downloaded that zip, it´s OK here (tested in a Windows 2K machine and old XP machine, sorry I´m not at home now to test it with Puppy).

Could you download it again please and try to unpack it?.

Hello clarf,
Thanks for getting back to me.

I've repeated what I did before...with the same result.
I downloaded your zip file again. As 214X didn't seem to be able to unzip it I went to a Windows PC and used Winzip. Got a file called .tabble

Transferred that to my 214XRC install and it seems to be a text file. Clicking on it of course just launches a text reader.

What am I supposed to do wIth this file? Sorry for my ignorance.
Has anyone else managed to unzip it with 214X and knows where to install it?
Dave

Hi dave just drop it in /root :) Its a config file only.
It uses the table packages I've been providing earlier.

Thanks ttuuxxx. Got it working now. Although I still think it would be better in the Setup section of the Menus.

Just one thing shouldn't file-roller or X-archiver be able to unzip this?

Yes and yes they both unzip clarks's config, what's up with your version?

Dave:

I could unzip that "Control Panel file" with Puppy 214X, what could be wrong with yours?.

I also noticed that file-roller doesn´t have any application configured to open the compressed file, where X-archive has many launch applications options... Something really easy to add for next release.

Greetings,
clarf

P.D: Any comment for the items selection or distribtuion in Control Panel?

1. ttuuxxx and clarf:
Just got back and re downloaded clarf's zip file and tried to unzip with file-roller and x-archiver. Now it works. So, don't know if it was a bad download or more likely I was being stupid and forgot it was a hidden file. Anyway now all okay.

2. Clarf:
The new layout is fine and apart from what I've said before about the Menu placement and being able to run by clicking on an icon not label, it's a goer.

3. ttuuxxx:
new subject. I wanted to try (dare I say it) google chrome but it gives out
/usr/bin/google-chrome: /usr/lib/libgcc_s.so.1: version `GCC_4.0.0' not found. (Required by /usr/bin/google-chrome)

/usr/bin/google-chrome: /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6: version `GLIBCXX_3.4.9' not found (Required by /usr/bin/google-chrome)
Any chance getting these that would work with 214X?

4. ttuuxxx
Started to try your gtk-samba but realised I hadn't checked out remote printing in 214X-RC so tried that and found problems. It was all working in 214X16 and I followed the same procedure.
Eventually found that if I used

Code: Select all

smb://192.168.0.3/Printer_name
(which worked before in 214X16) it failed in RC.
But when I tried

Code: Select all

smb://my_network/my_PC/Printer_name
all was okay. Have you changed anything that should cause this change. Weird.

Oh, and not sure what gtk-samba offers so couldn't really give it a test. Google wasn't very helpful when I had a quick look.

Thanks as ever
Dave

Did you mount the latest devx SFS file?, it should have the needed libraries.

ttuuxxx:

Are you going to upload a new devx file for 214X, with the updated GTK1 packages that you released?.

Couldn't find a devx.sfs file for 214X but found a devx.pet on first page of this thread. After 3 downloads I still couldn't get one that agreed with the MD5 given but as all 3 gave the same MD5 I had to assume the quoted MD5 is wrong. ????

Opened this up and found libgcc_s.so.1 and libstdc++.so.6 but these were symlinks so transfered what they were symlinked to to my /usr/lib folder and then the whole thing crashed. Unable to get it to restore so had to delete the save file and start again.

Think its time for bed.

Hi, another bug seems to byte the dust. :)

I have good news for all Xvesa users (hope you like it sinc). I fixed the exit to Prompt, Reboot and Shutdown problems using Xvesa, many thanks to BarryK for the idea, you can find more info in Barry's Blog:

http://bkhome.org/blog/?viewDetailed=00654

After read Barry´s post you can find that an easy workaround is delete the /tmp/videomode file, but this file is created after a video mode change. I also wanted to developed a complete fix and not just use a workaround.

I didn´t changed Xorgwizard script, I updated xwin and updated the jwm menu template instead. I modified jwm menu because the "Exit to prompt" option executed "jwm -exit" but not the proper wmexit script used in other Puppy versions... also updated xwin in a more logical way.

So I attach a pet file with the updated files, after the pet is installed the fixmenu script is automatically executed and the jwm menu is updated, making the fix ready to be used.

Please test it and feedback, thank you.

Greetings,
clarf

P.D: This fix was made to be used for 214X, because the original menu template and xwin script come from 214X. But the updated code could be used in any other Puppy with Xvesa problems, just search for clarf text to see the changes.

I introduced the jwm -exit option because its the official JWM shutdown and users were having issues with the puppy default one, has there been any shutdown issues, not reboot etc, just shutdown since I changed it?
works fine for me.

next release I'll update gtk1.2/devx.
Also I didn't touch samba at all. Hmmm SO it should be the same, just needs that one system link. :)

Hi ttuuxxx,

There is nothing wrong with the jwm -exit option :) :) , but there´s a bug inside xwin using Xvesa :( . In Xvesa mode you can´t exit to prompt, reboot or shudown Puppy. I will explain the full problem and solution implemented:

1. When you call /usr/X11/wmpoweroff or wmreboot from menu, these scripts writes "poweroff" or "reboot" in /tmp/wmexitmode and then do a "killall X". At the end of X it returns control to xwin, which reads the file exitmode if this file is present with some of the previous words, xwin runs /sbin/poweroff or reboot. But xwin has a "exec xwin" code that prevented to read the value saved in exitmode, then it not executed the proper shutdown or reboot scripts and does a restart instead. So I had to move the code in xwin to fix the problem with reboot and shutdown.

2. The option "exit to prompt" (jwm -exit) kill the actual windows manager jwm, then xwin is called but it starts again the windows manager and you can´t exit to prompt. It´s a normal behavior because xwin needs to be restarted each time you choose a different video mode (resolution or depth color) and not exit to prompt. That´s the reason I had to change the "jwm -exit" call to wmexit, because wmexit writes a "exit" value to /tmp/wmexitmode as reboot or poweroff options do, if xwin finds that value then it will not restarts X.

With the fix you can change video modes in Xvesa without exit to promt, yet you can reboot, poweroff or Exit to Prompt when you want to.

About wmexit it only does a killall X so there´s no rela problems using it. Although it has a counter before kill actual windows manager (jwm), it counts up to 30 seconds waiting for process pup_event_front_end_d to be terminated before "Exit to Prompt", if that process is not in memory then it kill X immediately. I don´t find any other possible reason to have problems using wmexit, but that time could be shorted if you want. :) Also additional clean up code could be included in wmexit, to terminate some buggy app before Exit to prompt. :)

I hope that I expressed myself clear enough to explain the bug with Xvesa and Why I made those changes.

Any questions will be answered gladly.

Greetings, your friend

clarf

Ok here a 25MB pet that I'm working and will be a sfs in the near future, its made for writers. I've read online that lyx is the best app for writers once you get used to it, I still have to get some plugins but its a start, I used an older version because of the different QT deps. Included are the following files
http://puppylinux.asia/tpp/ttuuxxx/2.14 ... are-v1.pet
username:puppy
password:linux

aspell6-en-6.0-0
aspell-0.60.6
enchant-1.5.0
Python-2.5
lyx-1.4.1
QT-Theme-ttuuxx
scribus-1.3.3.13
stardict-3.0.1

ttuuxxx

As a addon is F4L is a Flash swf editor/creator, its only good with the above pet, it uses a large QT lib which is included.
